Student attacked with taser in Oakton HS locker room

Do you mean Cedar Lane School? It’s also an alternative school but mostly for students with severe ED among other issues.

Also any weapon brought onto school property is grounds for expulsion.

Honest questions; as an fcps parent, what prevents me/us from initiating a police investigation first? Same happened w Thoreau incident - mom went to the school first.

It it better to call police, then perhaps retain your own attorney, then go from there?

At any rate, the person who took the video, the person who tased, and the person(s) who restrained should all be expelled from FCPS and criminally charged. Bystanders should be assessed on a case by case basis.

There should have been communication from the school to all students and parents the day in happened. I do not trust the school to handle this situation with a focus on protecting the victim.

Event occurred last Thursday. No school Monday and Tuesday. Student reported to school Wednesday. School parents notified Wednesday.

The school notified parents AFTER a news crew showed up on their doorstep.

Exactly. That was stated in the news story on channel 4. The school admins knew and decided to enjoy their 4 day weekend rather than address this issue. Pathetic.

It sounds like the administrators found out Wed (yesterday), I don’t think they knew last week.

Admin knew last week. Nothing was done and finally someone called the news and they went to the school and started showing parents the video in the kids & ride line. Then, bingo! An hour later, parents get an email and now the school is “investigating.”

A truly cowardly despicable act, made worse by all the bystanders who did nothing, and the staff who are taking their sweet time to notify and investigate. It’s a new principal but I do not trust this school after what happened to the girl assaulted on the band trip.

When was the band incident? Any details of what happened?

Is John Banbury still the principal at Oakton? If yes, I doubt this is handled appropriately.

This needs to be escalated to the school board. A school that recently experienced tragedy should be more caring and compassionate among its staff and students. Either the admin didn’t know till Wednesday, in which case they are utterly clueless about what is going on at the school and it might be a “no snitches” culture where kids do not trust adults. Or they knew earlier and didn’t communicate to parents and students in a timely manner, which led this to spread for days. Anyone who shared the video should be held responsible for their damaging actions. This should be on their disciplinary record, and emphasized to colleges they apply to.

No. BOTH administrators involved in the "joking" emails referenced towards the end of the article are gone.

If I recall correctly, they were not fired - just moved around in FCPS.

Wow, Banbury is an “executive principal” now.

What “tragedy”?

That's first thing I wondered...
Where did they get a stun gun?

Parents have actual guns laying around!!! And we all know this and you’re wondering about a taser gun?

Kid is at oakton.

Kid said that a student who witnessed this assault reported it LAST week to a trusted adult at the school.

Typical FCPS fashion not a damn thing was done.

Mom (or someone close to) of victim sent video to news 4.

Thankful that news 4 actually followed through!

Oakton High obviously had a prison culture.

Admin should all be replaced as should SRO. WTF are they not doing that they either don’t know what’s actually happening in their effing school? Seriously! W T F

I don’t trust that my kids are safe and secure at that school-definitely not in the locker room! Which begs the question where TF was the PE teacher? Time for FCPS to mandate two adults in all locker rooms!

Your principal is like a warden. Shit stays calm when the warden is on game! The staff are the guards. Again, the school or prison is only as safe as the people running it. Time to clean up the shit that allows this kind of assault to take place.

Final thought - if kids had been, oh I don’t know, black, would we even be having this conversation? My guess is no since it would’ve been reported and kid would’ve been cuffed. Maybe it’s true that UMC white boys are untouchable

Rest assured, though, due to privacy laws, we will never know what, if any, punishment was meted out and what became of the kids who participated in the attack.

My DD is a junior at OHS and only found out about this event after I received the principal's email and asked my DD about it. It was all over Snapchat apparently.[/qu
I saw the grabbing of him/holding him against his will, and thought this must be how it feels to be gang raped. Really disturbing video.

Banbury was moved to Lake Braddock Secondary School where he made another huge mess. He could have been fired out of Oakton or Lake Braddock, either one. He was escorted out of Lake Braddock. FCPS won’t do the right thing. Kids’ safety is low priority.
