OHS parent here.
My DC is a freshman. The rumor mill has died down - a bit. Everyone in 9th grade knows the names of the assailants. They are no longer in the “in” crowd at any HS within 5 miles of OHS. No idea about actual consequences from FCPS or FCPD. Sadly, this type of grievousness won’t really be swept under the carpet. It’ll continue to be whispered about. |
Thanks. I think we are all curious--and that does not entitle us to know the details. There are laws and rules to protect juveniles. In this instance, I doubt these kids will do this again, but they certainly deserve to be punished. In a way, it would be better, if they did publicly announce the punishment. But, that is likely illegal. So, everyone speculates. |
It’s not idle, nosey curiosity. A crime was committed for which state guidelines recommend expulsion or something close to it. Parents in the school district want to know if anything was done to prevent it from happening again or if their kids are next. |
+1 Bully parents raise bully kids. |
DP here. That was a really, really, really inappropriate response. Other parents must question you, your child, your motives, often - because you seem to be inappropriately defensive. |
+1 The bullies are probably trying to claim "self defense". Give me a break. |
| There is physical bullying and there is online bullying. Ironically, an act of physical bullying by minors, which called for both punishment for the assailants and acknowledgment of their age, has now been followed by online bullying by sanctimonious adults who ought to know better. It’s neither a good look nor a mature response - just a bunch of Karens at their worst (along with a few Chads whose posts usually get deleted because they’ve incited physical violence against the assailants). |
