Ooooh, just give it time. Verizon will piss you off at some point. I promise.

Local, but I love shopping at Arrowine in Arlington. Knowledgeable, friendly staff who will help you find a great bottle of wine at any budget.

Another vote for Nordstrom

No no no my friend. The name of that company should never be mentioned in a thread titled "Retailers with awesome customer service". If the title was "Retailers who you have to drag into the very Maws of Hell to get them to stop charging you for services you never requested", then yes, you could mention them.

Totally agree! Verizon is the WORST but the rest are bad too so we stick with them.

Not a retailer, but my parents bought my daughter a toy piano made by Schoenhut, and their customer service was WONDERFUL. I was a mite surprised, because they seem to have a pretty solid corner on the market for toy pianos, and that's often when a company starts getting unpleasant.

As for retailers, more votes for Lands End and Costco. I also really like Costco's labor record. They treat their employees very well.

HA. JUST KIDDING. They're the worst. Is it just me or does everyone agree on that?

Ooops. Just saw the other chain about retailers to avoid. Sorry.

Retailers to love: i may be alone but i have no complaints about Verizon.

Correct, you are alone.

I love endless.com for shoes. I have wide feet and it's hard to find shoes in the store. I can order from endless.com and get free overnight shipping, and free return shipping.

I really only felt this way about the lady who slept on a mattress for a year knowing that she would return it. THAT is horrible.

Zappos. They may not be the cheapest but they are definitly the best.

LL Bean cheerleader again. I will say that I experienced one of those defining moments with my (eventually ex) SIL around the LL Bean return policy. She was very surprised by it and declared how great it would be to buy a pair of shoes, wear them for a year, and then return them for a new pair. You'd never have to buy new shoes! That said so much about her character. I have never forgotten it. I just wish that was the only incident where she showed her lack of character.

That said, I go with the pp who says that most of the commenters are not talking about using the LL Bean return policy unfairly.

Wrights Furniture in Rockville. They're absolutely wonderful to deal with and I recommend them with a ton of confidence that anyone would love them!

SierraSnowboard.com has incredible prices and quick shipping.

BTW -- LLBean will take anything back, even if it is not in sellable condition.

Nordstrom, Costco and Bed Bath & Beyond all get back ups from me!

Another vote for REI. Very knowledgeable staff who use the gear, but at the same time are not snooty about it. They're good with both experienced folks and newbies, and don't seem to automatically assume you fall into either category. SOLID return policy, great dividend, and great deals on sale. I saved a bundle by buying DS two good winter coats there at a deep discount a few years before they fit him.

OMG Chick Fil A in the food court totally made my day. My son was hungry, I wasn't really prepared to "eat out", and the lady not only brought our food, but brought a balloon and one of those little sticky placemats for the disgusting table. I think my jaw hit the table.

I say Fisher Price is actually good too. We bought a large item that broke within minutes. I called customer service, expecting a fight. They not only shipped a new one, paid for the shipping for the old one, but the lady was so good at handling an irrate customer, she deserves a raise. I went into the phone call angry and ended it happy(even though my son's b-day gift was broken). That's good customer service.

An example of not taking advantage: I bought a couple pairs of pants from Lands End for my toddler. They were quite stiff, and she refused to wear them. I figured I'd wash them a few times and try to soften them up. The fabric never got any more toddler-friendly, and the elastic in the adjustable waist actually got harder/ more pokey. So I returned them. I don't consider something that's been washed 4 times to be in re-sellable condition, but I don't consider myself to be taking dishonest advantage of Lands End's policy.

When I made the return, I had them enter a note in the record saying that the fabric was too stiff/rough for tender baby skin, and the seams were too heavy, making the pants inflexible. With LE, I can expect them to actually see my comment and take it into consideration.

I agree with the customer service part of this, but unfortunately 90% of the wines they have recommended for us we have not liked. Weird I know, but because of that we started going to International Wine and Beverage at Lee Highway and Quincy, and they are GREAT. So friendly and good recommendations.

For national chains, we have had really good luck with Next Day Blinds.

My college roommate used to return shoes to LL Bean after wearing them for a couple years and got new ones. I thought she was pathetic. It definitely says something about one's character.
