My thoughts exactly. I bet airport security goes up ASAP. We live 3 blocks from the zoo. This is incredibly scary that not even a family event at the zoo is safe in DC. The Mayor needs to get her act together.

Agree that action is needed, but this is Park Police turf. Not clear what actions can take in the short run to stem this chronic problem.

I'm glad my out of town family members flew home this afternoon because a good portion of Friday morning was spent telling them how DC was NOT bad. To them, DC = Chicago in terms of violence. Kind of hard to argue when a shooting happened where they were the night before, you know? Not a great look.

This is how DC is now. Fare jumping and eating are legal. If police intervene with poor teen behavior they are filmed and yelled at. If you dont have the will to police bad behavior, you get bad behavior. Glad I have options besides metro. That's how these teens get around, and the lawlessness down their no doubt feeds their overall sense of impunity.

As some of this happened on federal property they should charge as many as possible with federal offenses. This means federal court without the drama of a DC superior court jury. Try to charge as many as possible as adults, and then send them to a prison in Nebraska or somewhere for a long, tough sentence.

Did they arrest any of the criminals. I was struck this week by the way they dealt with the knife-wielding criminal on London Bridge. A special police squad arrived, as passerby subdued the criminal, and cooly dispatched him to the hereafter. No long trial, no expensive incarceration. Just sorry old chap, pop, pop. If someone uses a knife or gun to terrorize a crowd, then summary justice is both efficient and a deterrent.

Someone will "capture" it on their stupid camera phone, say they are violating the kids rights and the officers will be investigated and put on leave. And if the kids are apprehended and charged, our council will make sure they are out in a week, probably with a voucher for firecrackers.

I saw a white SJW filming 2 black police officers outside the trader Joe's on 14th street while they were calmly explaining to an erratic homeless black man , he was banned for stealing, but had the manager's permission not to arrest him as long as he never returns to the store. I still don't understand what the officers were doing wrong that the bimbo SJW felt the need to film them.

I'm not sure what the answer is. On the one hand, I'm positive that young black teens are discriminated against. On the other hand, there's an uptick in juvenile crime in DC, and I'm not going to wait around to see if I feel nervous. Yesterday I was on the metro and looked up to suddenly see a teen boy appear next to me, tying on one of those monster teeth face masks. I had my phone out. There was no reason for him to have walked up to where I was (at the very end of the first train car). You bet I got up and walked to the other end of the car and exited as quickly as I could and made sure I wasn't being followed.
