It’s not remotely necessary to have this level of “protection” at a free outdoor national park, just so a small handful of people who are wildly overestimating the risks of attending feel better.

They have this level of protection at free events all over town. The Zoo seems to be running neck to neck with the Capitol in terms of acts of violence. Seems like more security procedures would help. What's your quibble with safety for patrons, many of whom are small chidlren?

There’s no indication that the level of risk at the zoo is the same as at the Capitol. Why do we need the same level of security there as at one of the most heavily guarded and secured buildings in the world? For that matter, we don’t need the level of security theater they’ve got at all the stadiums in town, either.

I go to the zoo with my small children often. I don’t feel remotely unsafe there. Having heavy security would just be a pain.

Last night as a woman was parking in Tenleytown someone smashed in the passenger side window and took her backpack right off the seat! Tenleytown seems to have some sketchy characters hanging around sometimes but this is so brazen. Bowser is presiding over a real uptick in Crimea in DC including in upper Northwest.

Typo correction: crimes not Crimea (though The Russian invasion of Crimea is a crime of a different sort)

The police will tell you that you shouldn't leave anything in plain view in your vehicle. It's your fault there is crime. Tinting your windows is a crime as well citizen.

For special events, not for every time you go to the zoo.
