Zoo Lights Shooting and Violence

Anonymous
Zoo lights closed early because of fights, violence, and fireworks. Followed by two shootings, one a half block from the zoo in the midst of hundreds of families. When is this city and the people going to realize something has to be done about the violence.

It seems like this has been an especially violent week. I understand gang violence, drug deal gone bad, etc. But you would think people would have the decency to keep that sh1t away from a family event at the zoo.

Fireworks? Sheesh

What the heck happened? The Post story is unclear. Fireworks we're heard (inside the zoo? Outside the zoo?) and then the fighting was outside the zoo? The shooting was outside the zoo?

They closed Conn Ave because of the people streaming out of the zoo?

Crazy. And aggravating. The zoo has been trying to increase security and close itself off from the neighborhood, and wants increased fencing. So aggravating that people likely not from the neighborhood are creating the ammunition for those m measures to go through.

Thank God for the police.

This is why we can’t have nice things. The zoo could go back to charging admission for Zoolights to prevent unsupervised teens from roaming around. Would be too bad for families that go for cheap entertainment, though.

My thoughts exactly. I bet airport security goes up ASAP. We live 3 blocks from the zoo. This is incredibly scary that not even a family event at the zoo is safe in DC. The Mayor needs to get her act together.

I’m fine with this. Or the same security they have for Easter and break.

At least two people shot outside the zoo. Apparently young, not neighbors.

The Mayor couldn't care less about NW.

The real crime here is that the people who left the zoo walked South to Woodley Park because of the stupid station name even though Cleveland Park is just as close and more or less flat.

Of course it’s worse when it’s July and people are walking up the hill with strollers but still.

I posted above. Just spent some time on DC twitter. The first shooting victim was found at Cathedral and Conn, so just south of the zoo. Second victim at Biltmore and Calvert, which is kinda far...

Lots of reports of fighting teens on the metro, police presence on Metro, trying to disperse groups of teens, who seem to be heading now toward Gallery place.

Sheesh. If this is what it's like at Thanksgiving (on a cold night!), really dreading Easter at the Zoo (we live just two blocks from back entrance of zoo).
