Can we just jettison Takoma Park/Silver Spring so they can form their social justice commune and the rest of us govern ourselves like adults?
theres a revolt in NP. People really upset in the increase in home invasions and burglaries particularly Asians and Indians really upset that county is so pro criminal

What are you babbling about? I'm Asian Indian and do not consider the county to be "procriminal." Speak for yourself.

DP

Where do you live? You must be one of the lucky ones who live in a higher end community. Has your car not been broken into yet? Have your kids not had any issues at school? No issues at your local parks? Glad that you have been happy with the lack of crime. Not all of us have the luxury of living in the $1 million neighborhoods of Potomac.

For the record, I'm a Democrat. A disillusioned Democrat, but still registered as one so I can have a chance to elect moderates in local elections. But I'm about to give up and move to Fairfax - where my new job is, where ALL THE JOBS ARE.
I would never vote for a Republican at the national level with the current clown circus that is the Party of Trump, but living in a One Party jurisdiction is NOT A GOOD THING.

Montgomery County politicians and the people who put them there are a parody of themselves. Their latest "community forum on policing" was 100% about complaining about how police officers are racist - absolutely nothing on how to reduce crime. the new Council and County Executive have a massive budget shortfall and dwindling tax base and what do they do? Hold a bajillion "racial equity and social justice" forums, listening sessions, galas, and fundraisers to show off their #wokeness with our taxpayer money. They replace the POW/MIA flag with the Pride flag. Every County staff hire is based around some kind of social justice and identity politics contest - you are unbeatable if you are black, disabled, and gay.

I'm a classical liberal - I'm for equality of opportunity, judging on content of our character, participating in a market equality. Meanwhile in MoCo, the Government is the biggest employer and it chooses based on identity politics and how woke you are.

My favorite thing to watch, though, is the Montgomery County Left eat itself up. It's all over Facebook and Twitter. There's the Social Justice Left (the Council and its allies) who obsess about transit-oriented LGBTQ housing and bike lanes and other things that only 1% of taxpayers would benefit from, and they are at war with the Socialist Left (the County Executive, who is a card-carrying member of the Democratic Socialists, and his friends), who oppose new housing developments because they are built by corporations who make money. It's pretty hilarious.

One of two things will happen. Either the two factions of the extreme left will eat each other up and the County will elect sensible moderates, or the county will continue its decline into becoming a socialist backwater. I hope it's the former, but I'm not sticking around for the latter. #Bye.

This is a completely accurate description. I used to vote Democratic - votes for Hillary and Obama. Though I did vote for Hogan. I am disgusted by MoCo on a daily basis. Yes, they are absolutely pro-criminal. The school system is a disaster and MCPS leadership is so busy virtue signaling (with its multi-gender bathrooms) that it completely drops the ball when students are getting raped in the high schools.

I’ll disagree that Fairfax will be better though OP. From what I understand, they face similar issues.

Similar issues but not to the same extent - Sharon Bulova/Jeff McKay are more moderate and business-friendly than Marc Elrich.

But the younger politicians in Fairfax are AOC-like types light on any practical experience and heavy on virtue signaling.

OP, maybe try Frederick County. Or Loudon.

We know two families that recently left MoCO because they were fed up with the school system and the politics. One chose Frederick and one chose London.

I generally agree with your post for the current situation though

Yup.
Blair didn’t win because we are idiots!
We even elected back in a corrupt school board.
We elected a man because people think he ‘listens’ to them.

The school board is an unmitigated disaster. They are leading the County to its downfall. Without a strong school system, middle class families will flee.

Fairfax is well on its way to becoming all this, but it’s still probably a few years out.

Amazon refused to locate in White Flint because Crystal City was a better location for them.

...yes, because of the proximity to the airport. Hence, why they chose NYC for the second location. The rule regarding real estate for individuals applies to businesses -- location location location.

VA is galloping toward the left but it still has a kind of pro-business reputation.

Ignoring the issue of whether or not the county is pro-criminal, do you have kids in MCPS or do they go to a private school?

Many of the Asian families we know are so frustrated with MCPS. The Super and the BOE are almost openly hostile towards Asian families. Plus, they are discouraged by the poor school performance, lack of consistent curriculum, and the non-existent discipline policies. The Code of Conduct is a joke and the focus on restorative justice practices in schools has led to an enormous increase in terrible behavior with zero consequences. Kids learn early on that they can get away with bad behavior and it gets worse and worse.

Maybe if your kids are in MCPS, they are in a school with a high number of Asian students? Those tend to perform better statistically.

My kids’ HS stats recently showed that only 23% of its students graduated meeting UMD entrance requirements. That is horrendous! And yet, no communication from McPS leadership as to how they will try to improve this.

Instead, MCPS focuses on holding multiple random forums no all sorts of ridiculous topics and wants to spend millions of dollars converting restrooms so that they are mixed-gender.

My kids’ Focus ES can’t even provide glue sticks and half the Chromebooks don’t work. Priorities are completely out of whack in MCPS.

This is why common sense moderates should run things instead of the extreme wings of the political spectrum.

Vladimir Lenin was more business-friendly than Marx Elrich.

https://www.bbc.com/bitesize/guides/z2tnxsg/revision/1

Lenin brought in what he called the New Economic Policy. Peasants who had been forced to hand over all their produce to the war effort - were allowed to keep some to sell for profit - some (the kulaks) became quite rich. Small traders called Nepmen were allowed to set up businesses.

The economy picked up, and people were much happier. But many old Bolsheviks said Lenin had sold out to capitalism, and left the party.

Fairfax County is certainly trying to add TOD, bike lanes, and to be fight discrimination againt LGBT. That is what sensible moderates want in 2019. If you don't want that, maybe you need to move to Prince William or further south down I95.

If you DO want TOD, bike lanes, progressive policies in general, but a more pro business attitude than MoCo has right now, then FFX may well be for you.

I know of no FFX county elected officials who oppose Bulova/McKay on business issues.

What is wrong with virtue signaling? Should one signal vice?
