...yes, because of the proximity to the airport. Hence, why they chose NYC for the second location. The rule regarding real estate for individuals applies to businesses -- location location location.

The smoking ban is a great example of MoCo's wrong priorities. In Bethesda, only 5 restaurants/bars, out of 100+, allowed smoking outdoors anyway. The free market can work this out -- if patrons don't like a place that allows smoking outside, they can just pick another place. Maybe the place that does allow smoking will ban if it they lose too many customers. No need for the county to regulate this.

Instead, they waste time on this stupid ban, and the end-result is that smokers will shift from the outdoor patio of the restaurant to the sidewalk. How is that any better?

I talked to Elrich last week and he said his focus is to make every county office focus on "racial equity". I'm not making this up. They've already trained all his staff, and will start training the managers soon.

Is that really the top priority in the county? How about focusing on business-friendly policies and affordable housing? How about reforming MCPS? Did you know MCPS doesn't even have an inspector general to keep them in line?

Huh? Have you ever been to Prince George's County, even once? They need more bike lanes and more housing around transit too - in fact, even more than Montgomery County, because they've been doing even less than Montgomery County.

Of course it’s a priority. Much of the existing racial inequities are government-driven. Time for government to shape up.

Is this true? I assume other massive public school systems do have inspectors general?

Montgomery County politicians and the people who put them there are a parody of themselves. Their latest "community forum on policing" was 100% about complaining about how police officers are racist - absolutely nothing on how to reduce crime. the new Council and County Executive have a massive budget shortfall and dwindling tax base and what do they do? Hold a bajillion "racial equity and social justice" forums, listening sessions, galas, and fundraisers to show off their #wokeness with our taxpayer money. They replace the POW/MIA flag with the Pride flag. Every County staff hire is based around some kind of social justice and identity politics contest - you are unbeatable if you are black, disabled, and gay.

I'm a classical liberal - I'm for equality of opportunity, judging on content of our character, participating in a market equality. Meanwhile in MoCo, the Government is the biggest employer and it chooses based on identity politics and how woke you are.

My favorite thing to watch, though, is the Montgomery County Left eat itself up. It's all over Facebook and Twitter. There's the Social Justice Left (the Council and its allies) who obsess about transit-oriented LGBTQ housing and bike lanes and other things that only 1% of taxpayers would benefit from, and they are at war with the Socialist Left (the County Executive, who is a card-carrying member of the Democratic Socialists, and his friends), who oppose new housing developments because they are built by corporations who make money. It's pretty hilarious.

One of two things will happen. Either the two factions of the extreme left will eat each other up and the County will elect sensible moderates, or the county will continue its decline into becoming a socialist backwater. I hope it's the former, but I'm not sticking around for the latter. #Bye.

This is a completely accurate description. I used to vote Democratic - votes for Hillary and Obama. Though I did vote for Hogan. I am disgusted by MoCo on a daily basis. Yes, they are absolutely pro-criminal. The school system is a disaster and MCPS leadership is so busy virtue signaling (with its multi-gender bathrooms) that it completely drops the ball when students are getting raped in the high schools.

I’ll disagree that Fairfax will be better though OP. From what I understand, they face similar issues.
