As another Arlington resident, I do not 1. think MoCo is going “into the shitter” and 2. Enjoy watching the relative decline of MoCo.

MoCo is still highly desirable place to live with beautiful neighborhoods, best schools on average in the DC area and lots of high quality research jobs, educated and diverse residents. They do tend to shun economic development, which is unfortunate for the non-law firm partners, lobbyists etc living in Bethesda and Potomac.

Also, if you enjoy watching an almost carbon copy MD version of the Nova side you must have poor long term vision. The policies on this side of the river resemble MoCo’s more and more every year. Amazon was good marketing and lucking out on having the behemoth called Crystal City sotting isle so close to DC. A strong MoCo is better for Nova too since MD and Nova have some of the largest cross border in the mid-Atlantic. If they go down our taxes go up.

I’ve lived in both Moco and arlington. Born in Moco . Moco is in decline. It’s only going to get worse. Arlington is tooo expensive to have many poor people and if they get more it will make it even more expensive. However arlington desperately wants to become Moco .

Complete hyperbole. Maryland, despite being one of the smallest states in terms of square mileage (it is 8th smallest, or 42/50 in size), is the 5th most populous state. MoCo has the largest population. It's population is not declining. The economy is not declining. The unemployment rate is low, lower than the US rate. The economy is projected to grow. When you have mature industries, we do not need to have the highest growth rate because we already have a solid economy. Income per capita and household income are both much higher than the national median.
