Would you take Tufts, Emory, Wash U over UVA?

Stop it, this is embarrassing for you.

I have 5 members in my family who went to UVA (including myself), and you all are acting like it’s Harvard. News flash, it’s a state school. A good one, but don’t get delusions of grandeur.

No one said it is, least of all me. But it is certainly recognized by academics as being on par with the schools that the OP has listed, at least at the undergraduate level, and it has very high admission standards. It’s absolutely the case that UVA bashers are jealous that they can’t get their kids in.

reading comprehension issues? Not familiar with ED?

Correct. We are planning ED. The issue is if we get in we are stuck with these privates. I don’t think he gets in UVA EA but does regular. Based on Naviance and ECs. Decent shot at three privates. Income around 300k but will have sister likely at another private (perhaps ivy). And one more after that. We can easily pay all three at state schools. We are in state in Virginia. Private for three will be a stretch.

Plan is ED one of these three, EA UVA, and perhaps ED2 William and Mary if it Clem s down to it.

Lol @perhaps ivy. Count chickens much?

Recruited girlfriend.

Too bad she couldn’t get in on her own merits.

UVA is not that hard to get in, if you can get into the top 25. Not everyone wants a southern experience or the UVA social scene. It’s not a welcoming environment for many kids who have grown up in a multicultural environment and is extremely segregated. I don’t understand why the fact that something is cheap makes poster think everyone wants it. There is nothing wrong with Macy’s but the one at Tyson’s II closed. Why? People like Neiman’s and Saks more. Would it be cheaper to shop at Macy’s? Yes. But not enough people did. Some families like catholic colleges, LAC, Ivy+... not everyone poster that would not choose UVA is bitter. It’s unclear why so many make that assumption???

GPA at average and ACT at average. 50th percentile. Just have good connections. Sorry, not sorry.

Does demonstrating the huge difference between public and private, because they have a state to Wishon is equivalent to private.

PP here: I’m a UVA alum, and so is my husband. We have 2 in college, one turned down UVA to attend a private.

College decisions are not made by just looking at rankings. There are myriad reasons to pick a school. The jealousy card you play is embarrassing because you won’t listen to the fact that people choose other schools for good reasons. Why would you immediately think it’s about jealousy?

Again, just stop.

OP here. Folks the problem is the ED. Higher chance of getting in but then we are committed. We want the higher chance of admission but want the optionality of UVA. Likely, we would choose UVA, especially with siblings that will be in college at same time.

Oh and let me fill in the blanks: one of your kids turned down UVA to go to a private, and the other didn’t get into UVA.

For what its worth, Emory does offer merit based scholarships. Believe the other two are need bssed only.

We’re OOS. He went to UChicago., didn’t apply to UVA. Most kids in our area do not (crazy, I know!)
