Would you take Tufts, Emory, Wash U over UVA?

Sorry your child didn't get in.

Not old enough to apply to any college yet.

Preparing yourself for the inevitable already? Good for you.

I agree that Charlottesville attracts undesirable people. Kids went to top 10 schools. No interest in UVA and have spent significant time in the area.

It’s after May 1, so you don’t have a senior. Don’t you think you’re counting your chickens before they’re hatched with this?

Because it’s a college, not a house or a marriage. You don’t pay twice as much for access to “cultural amenities” or high tech. Cut me a break.

You do pick schools based on where they are. Wise up.

I’d take any of them over UVA if money were no object......slight bias towards tufts because of Boston.

You need to figure out how much personalized attention is worth to you - smaller schools are better at this obviously.

Also, location matters to some - access to culture, research, co-op/internships.

Boston, Atlanta, St. Louis, and Charlottesville are very different.

If your DS is interested in biotech for example, I’d go to Boston.

Oh, please. None of this matters.

When you can afford it, this all matters. When you can’t, it doesn’t matter.

You’re in pure fantasy land at this point, but no. Only a fool would choose any of those places over UVA.

Nope.

Tufts - Eh.

That’s funny because I feel exactly the opposite.

No, and Why would you choose Tufts over UVA. Emory and WashU are a bit better than UVA but not full pay better.

The problem is DS will likely have to ED at one of those and will be committed (full pay) before we find out about UVA. Not sure worth double tuition though.

I went to Wash. U. and loved it.

I dated a grad student at UVA.

I don’t think there’s a huge difference in quality of faculty or prestige. The difference would be whether the student would rather live in a Charlottesville or in St. Louis. I enjoyed living in both places.
