Sorry your child didn't get in.

Not old enough to apply to any college yet.

Preparing yourself for the inevitable already? Good for you.

What did my child do to you to be mean like that? Are you a parent? You are implying my child can't have stats comparable to admitted students at UVA. Showing your true personality.

- Signed, the UVA boosters on DCUM

What moron would choose Emory over UVA? Didn’t Emory give false data to US News a few years ago?

Wasn’t there a giant cheating scandal at UVA? Tons of kids cheating on tests? Didn’t they get caught with a shady tip list for big donors? Let me guess: you don’t care. Looking forward to your backpedal.

OP - I went to UVA. It’s a good school. But, frankly, you’re just a number there. In hindsight, it was too large and would’ve preferred a smaller school where professors know my name.

Yes, it’s cheaper because it’s in-state. But not “cheap”. UVA is $40K for in-State students, that’s not cheap by any measure.

Charlottesville is a fun town, but it ain’t Boston or Atlanta.

If you can afford it, Tufts, WashU, and Emory are fantastic schools.

What would t ok do with the money otherwise...vacation? Drive a.nicer car? Get a personal trainer?

Quality private is always a better experience than quality public.....not even close.

If I could afford it without too much hardship.

Yes. Rankings are one of many important things. Fit is, too.

All four of those schools offer something special the others don't. Pick the one that has the special thing you want.

And smaller classes. That is something you buy at a private university. For many people, that is the difference between thriving and being ordinary.

The complete cost for UVA in-state students is estimated at $32,000 including EVERYTHING. That is a lot less than 40,000. Why should we believe anything you have to say if you’re going to exaggerate like that?

OP - I would go with a different selection of lower cost schools over UVA

I am a NP. Geez, talk about defensive. 2019 cost for Arts & Sci is $33k. Whether $7k is "a lot less" really depends on (I guess) how much money you make. It's not that much to me but I guess to you it is.

I don't think so. I have a third year there who absolutely loves it. There was a big cheating scandal at Harvard a few years back - are you thinking of that?

It depends on the college. My D is engineering, for example. Google is your friend: https://sfs.virginia.edu/cost/19-20

Depends on the program. McIntire, which my child is in, is $40K/year all-in.

Please. UVA had nothing to do with that. It's a non-issue on campus. And, BTW, 40% of the accepted class of 2023 are minorities, a 5% increase over the previous year. https://news.virginia.edu/content/wahoowa-uva-releases-admissions-decisions
