| Having this debate in the household now. Basically, a border line top academic ranked in US News around 20-25 over 25 in US News. Worth double the money? The problem is DS will likely have to ED at one of those and will be committed (full pay) before we find out about UVA. Not sure worth double tuition though. |
| Absolutely. Yes! |
| I would not do any of those over UVA. |
| If you make 300k+, maybe if my kid loved one. If your HHI is lower than that, it’s not worth it. Use the extra money for grad school or towards a down payment. |
| Are you in state or out of state for UVA? From NOVA? What do you think his admissions chances are there? |
|
All very similar prestige-wise.
You need to figure out how much personalized attention is worth to you - smaller schools are better at this obviously. Also, location matters to some - access to culture, research, co-op/internships. Boston, Atlanta, St. Louis, and Charlottesville are very different. If your DS is interested in biotech for example, I’d go to Boston. |

Wash U and Emory- Definitely, if DC likes the school
Tufts - Eh. |
Oh, please. None of this matters. |
| Why not? |
Because it’s a college, not a house or a marriage. You don’t pay twice as much for access to “cultural amenities” or high tech. Cut me a break. |
| No way. Fails the bang for the buck test. |
| The problem is Charlottesville attracts white supremacists. That is a negative for UVA. |
|
Only if money is no object.
I.e. you can afford to pay for professional schooling if DC decides he wants an MBA, MD, JD, etc. |
Another problem is that DCUM attracts idiots. Don't ask questions here.

Sorry your child didn't get in. |
