Well, day 1! I didn’t have any sugar, because I threw it all away. Ate healthy all day.
And to PP, I don’t expect to look like Heidi Klum in 3 months. But to think I could even lose 5 pounds gives me hope.

Thank you for confirming that it does not matter how fast or slow you lose weight - it's what you do afterwards to maintain your weight. (I am the PP who lost weight on keto and have been maintaining the weight for almost a year.) I've seen research about it. In fact, it even said rapid weight loss is good for boosting your motivation and keeping you on track. But on DCUM, only 'slow and steady win the race'

Yeah. Slow and steady is better for skin elasticity and has other health benefits but I’m living proof that it doesn’t mean long term success with keeping the weight off. I wasn’t even overeating by most standards. I just have to be on diet calories the rest of my life I guess. |

When you gain weight, you feel more hungry, and you slowly start increasing your portion size. So this is not a bad idea. Op . Step 1. Forgive yourself. Life can get to all of us. You do not have to be perfect. Step 2. Get off of this site. Way too many control freak eating disordered folks. Do not trade one problem for another. Step 3. Start measuring portions and slowly move to healthier food. Allow yourself an unhealthy treat every once in awhile. Find other ways to treat yourself. Step 4. Ask your dh for help. Maybe he should go grocery shopping or go with you. Maybe over eating is a sign you need more breaks. |

Walking does make a difference, my own weight ups and downs track pretty closely to when I have walked to work, etc vs. not. Currently my weight is up, walking to work is an option for me but I started caving this winter. This is something I need to change ASAP.
I never bought much in the way of junk food although ice cream could be my downfall. But I used to bake a lot. Now I just don't unless I am giving it to someone, bake sale, and a little bit of baking for holidays. Same principle as keeping it out of the house. I've read that spicy foods give you more of a feeling of being filled up, and that does seem to be the case. Note: I mean entrees, NOT cinnamon rolls! Also, I decided at some point that if I was going to eat something sweet or otherwise high calorie, I want it to be really good, not waste the calories on stuff like frosting made out of shortening or a crappy store bought pie or brownies. That generally means homemade. |
Good! No reason to keep it in your house. Don't let it in your house. You do not need to stock pile food in your house. I bet you live close-enough to a grocery store that you can go and buy whatever you need. Small amounts, buy just what you need. Americans are conditioned to have an inventory of most anything they can think of. No, no reason to. It's just temptation. |

This was and is me. I have lost 15 lbs but am still working on it. Things that helped me:
- doing grocery delivery stopped me from picking up snacks and unhealthy food in the store. This was hard, because I love going to the grocery, but it kept me on track so I could keep better habits and forced me to meal plan. I don't always use grocery delivery, but I do use it to reset if I fall off the wagon. - try emeals (or something similar) where they have healthy meal plans and can sync up a grocery list for you to order so you aren't spending much time/energy on food - remove all snacks and unhealthy food from your house. - Don't eat after dinner. You'll feel hungry at first but feeling hungry won't kill you. - Only snack on fruits and vegetable between meals. Not carrots and hummus, just carrots. Or an orange, etc. - Prep veggies to eat, have them ready to eat in the fridge. I bought a spiralizer for our kitchenmaid mixer and the kids love "helping" me use it and it encourages them to eat different foods too. - Don't beat yourself up if you slip up and don't expect immediate results on the scale.
