Years ago, when on a college tour at a completely different school, a tour guide told us to always look for construction when visiting schools. Construction means that the school is putting money into its facilities. Always a good thing. |

I transferred there when I needed to be closer to home, and I remember asking an out-of-state classmate what made him pick GMU. He said when he drove onto campus the first time past the (man-made) lake he was so impressed by how beautiful it was. I...couldn't believe it.

| I think OP is pretty rude to post such a comment. How offensive to so many people that attended or have kids that attend the school. How would OP like it if I posted a picture of his/her house stating it is the ugliest house ever. Why would someone ever post such an insulting comment?? |
What "industrial area"? DD just finished there (and fully employed - yay!). I like the campus. Everything is green and walkable. It's surrounded by the suburbs and City of Fairfax. Are you talking about all the GMU construction that is going on? GMU is the largest research university in Virginia. They have knocked down Robinson B and are rebuilding. Then they will rebuild Robinson A. They are tearing up the sidewalks as well. Dorms are going up. The only downside to living there (DD lived in dorms all four years) was the non-stop construction, especially of the library. |
+1. Probably a student or parent whose child didn't get in. It's that time of year. GMU has become much more difficult to get into. If OP is real, then they are confused by all the construction going on on campus because the center of the campus is quite green and lovely. Here's google images of it: https://www.theatlantic.com/magazine/archive/1946/04/nuremberg-a-fair-trial-a-dangerous-precedent/306492/ |
| well that ^^ didn't work. Google George Mason University and look at the images. The campus is especially nice during the summer when fewer students are on campus and parking is easier |
It was our son's no 1 pick several years ago in large part due to the computer science and game design department (he's now employed by Zenimas) What you will come to love is how huge, nice and new most of the dorms are. We also have a daughter who pulled one of the older dorms at UVA - it was like night and day. The GMU dorm looked like a nice hotel room with kitchen. Also most of the classroom and lab buildings are state of the art because they are relatively new. |
The school has been up and coming for over three decades. Still...waiting.... |
That’s about right. However, all of those schools are in Claremont, which is a lovely and wealthy village. |
Oh please. |
| GMU reminds me of W&M’s “new” campus. Old campus is beautiful but many people like me spent the vast majority of their time in 1960s-era brick buildings, just like GMUs. It didn’t diminish the quality of my education in the slightest. I think GMU is very pretty and its relative newness goes in the pro column for our DC. |

Old town Fairfax, you idiot. Main Street. Where GMU students go to eat. You clearly have never been on campus |
GMU still accepts 80% of the students who apply. Relax. |
| I teach there. Please show me where is "industrial" in this? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lpj5ZiJox-0 |
