I’m from NYC and went to school in Boston. I remember going to both MV and Nantucket in my 20s and being totally unimpressed. It is nothing special. Supply is limited so the prices are high so the poors can’t afford the go there. The actual place is nothing special. We have a seven figure income and love to travel. Our family likes Bethany best in this area. I was never a fan of Rehoboth or OC. Never knew Rehoboth was supposed to be upscale. They all seem the same to me. |
Where do they go now? |
| My Aunt and I had this exact conversation over the weekend while in Rehoboth. My family has a house there and I have been going to RB for 36 years, it has definitely changed over the last 10 years. It is now exactly like Ocean City. The boardwalk is full of teenagers and people smoking cigarettes, it used to be much more family friendly. The traffic on Rt 1 is terrible, it is now like the OBX where you can't leave the house on Saturdays or you will be stuck not moving. The restaurants are still good and I like the variety but the whole vibe is very different than it used to be. |
| it's not surprising that the same rich white folks supporting BLM are at the same time criticizing trashy people at the beach. so they would be ok with george floyd settling down next to them on the beach vs. some fat white lady covered in tattoos. hypocrites. I hope all the beaches go "downhill" so you can just hole up at your country club so no one has to be exposed to your prejudice and hate. |
You have issues. |
Gay person here, we still go to Rehoboth. We try not to go in the summer too much but love in the off season. |
| We've noticed a change. It has felt a bit more like OC in the recent years. We prefer to go off season because the restaurants are great. It's starting to get crowded off season too though. |

Rehoboth is likely to feel more low class this summer because Funland is closed, which has always been a draw for middle class families with children. So I don't think families with money to spend are going to be spending much time on the boardwalk. it's going to be more groups of rowdy and bored teens and early twenties. And more and more lower class people from Pennsylvania have decided Delaware beaches are their destination of choice. I don't think as many DC-based folks travel to Delaware as they used to.
I grew up in Delaware and spent my summers working there (Grottos, Jake's Seafood, etc.). Grottos used to be a job of choice for spunky, fit local teens and college kids. The last time I visited the staff were all fat and frumpy rednecks. Rehoboth is also very, very dependent upon J-1 visa workers and this summer they don't have them. |
| I have a seven-figure net worth but wear a size 16. is Rehoboth right for me? |
| That’s why no one goes there anymore. It’s too crowded. |
Yes. You can afford it but may look the part lol. |
| I think the gay community is what's keeping Rehoboth nice. At least all our gay neighbors keep their property in great shape. |
Our society is very unforgiving of overweight people, more than race and money. |
What if I can get down to a size 10? I'm tall. |
| Anyone who thinks the gays have left Rehoboth is not paying attention. |
