Yes, PP you’ll be fine. We also have 7 figure net worth and spend summers in Rehoboth. Despite our wealth, we are down-to-earth people who don’t care about your ses, race, tattoos, weight, etc.

Right? Clearly that person only walks Rehoboth Ave or the boardwalk.

No, it has nothing to do with poor people.
Poor people cannot afford the outrageous hotel rates in Rehoboth on weekends.
It has everything to do with all the obese, tattooed, cursing, drunk obnoxious trashy types. They seem to be everywhere.

So,it’s all the rich “obese, tattooed, cursing, drunk obnoxious types” you hate? Because there are so many of those?

If you’re going to be classist, own it.

Eh, don’t be a snob. Beaches are all overrated. But soon there will be less and less of them, so that’ll up their vslue.

They are overrated.

They’re not overrated, because I don’t know anyone who thinks they’re that nice. They’re conveniently located to a major population center, so they’re popular. That’s different from being “highly rated.”

Now DH, kids and I go to Bethany. There is a difference in people who visit both beaches. Bethany is decidedly more white, upscale preppy. Rehoboth - especially on weekends - does seem to have the Ocean City crowd vibe to it.

I wouldn't want to spend a week in Rehoboth, but it's still fun to go there one evening while we are at Bethany.

We are a black MD/PhD couple new to the area. We've been to Rehoboth once before with our toddler, but it seems that the presence of people who look like us is reason for some to avoid the area. We're heading to MV this year instead.

I can't believe that person posted that. It's shame you won't be going back.

FWIW, I liked Rehoboth. I felt it was nice quite as crazy as Ocean City but offered much more than Bethany.

So I don't think families with money to spend are going to be spending much time on the boardwalk. it's going to be more groups of rowdy and bored teens and early twenties. And more and more lower class people from Pennsylvania have decided Delaware beaches are their destination of choice. I don't think as many DC-based folks travel to Delaware as they used to.

I grew up in Delaware and spent my summers working there (Grottos, Jake's Seafood, etc.). Grottos used to be a job of choice for spunky, fit local teens and college kids. The last time I visited the staff were all fat and frumpy rednecks. Rehoboth is also very, very dependent upon J-1 visa workers and this summer they don't have them.

Low class? fat and frumpy? you are prejudiced and judgemental. where are you going to vacation now????

What is wrong with people here? Low class, fat and frumpy? So unkind.

Since there are no J-1 visas this year, these workers are most likely locals. Nice way to talk about them.

I lived in O.C. for a full year and saw many plates from NY, NJ and PA. It's more common than you think!

Where do they go now?

Gay person here, we still go to Rehoboth. We try not to go in the summer too much but love in the off season.

Rehoboth is great in the off season, especially the Fall. Did you ever go to the Sea Witch Festival?

It had nothing to go with race.

My kids went to Bethanybon the 4th of July and you could get acid, Xanys, weed and alcohol on the beach.

This is very hard to believe. Was this last year?

The Bethany and Millville PD's are everywhere.

In my opinion, Rehoboth is a cheesy place.

Shhhh!!!! It’s bad enough in summer, please don’t ruin the off season, too!

Left it? Are you kidding me? We have a house in the City and I’d say about half of the homeowners are gay or lesbian couples. On our short block, there is a young gay couple with a gorgeous new mansion, a retired hetero couple in their 80s, us as in middle aged hetero with two kids, and then a retired lesbian couple.
