OP here. I know many don’t follow politics. But local politics actually impact you faster and more personally than federal. School funding. The temporary energy tax we are all still paying. Pot holes as one PP mentioned. Although the cities and the state are responsible for their own roads here. Deer population management. Master plans for different areas like White Flint and Shady Grove. Dog parks and dog leash laws. The bag tax. Traffic. Road construction. Public transit. Crossing guards. These days - School security and safety. Who plows your roads when it snows and who picks up your trash. Minimum wage.

All that has to be managed well.

What news sources best cover local issues? I confess to woeful ignorance about the issues you've raised. Energy tax?

Unfortunately, there aren't many local outlets left. The Bethesda Beat has stepped up to fill the void and it's pretty good.

My main source of info is my neighborhood Facebook page, and a spin-off one for the larger community. We got shafted by the politicos and banded together to learn more - we have neighbors going to hear the debates and reporting in, and others hosting political fundraisers.

After I read this thread I went to a debate. Elrich is really thoughtful. He came across very different from how I’ve heard him described. I want to look a little more at a couple of the other candidates websites, but I really like him.

Elrich isn't just plain awful.

Rose isn't impressive, but she might be our best bet.

Agree on Berliner. He is the worst of the bunch in my opinion, in bed with all the developers. He did nothing to represent his district and acted like he was the County Executive. It was clear he had that ambition. Leventhal is so arrogant I just can't deal with him. The thing I like about Elrich is he isn't accepting development money. Berliner is already working hard to turn the county into a concrete jungle. I'll look more at Krasnow. I don't understand why this county can't get any decent candidates.

Looked into Rose Krasnow. OMG. She’s a huge part of the problem we’re facing. The Planning Department sold out the County, especially Bethesda, at bargain basement prices and with NO or FEW returns for residents. Just more traffic — bad planning — overstuffed schools -/ bad planning.
