The DLC monopoly is established by the MD State Code. The County Executive/County Council can't do anything about it, so I wouldn't make that a big factor in your decision. |
You might like Frick, although he might just be less liberal than the others. He helped Marriott get the hotel tax exemption for its in-house training facility even when the county council voted against giving them the exemption IIRC |
I think you are conflating state law and county law. There is no other county in America which has liquor stores, but plenty of states that do. |
You missed out on him by failing to vote for Phil Andrews last time around. |
Nope. PP is right. It’s a state law but it applies solely to MoCo. |
No. The Montgomery County DLC is a creation of State law. It is unusual - it is the only County in the State to have a department of liquor control created by the state. It's in the Local Government Article. I have absolutely no idea why. MoCo is also unique in MD in the way it's HHS department is structured, but that's another topic . . . |
The problem with Berliner is that he's clueless. He rarely asks questions or comments during hearings or meetings...because he doesn't know enough to add to or inform the conversation. He will be a train wreck. Leventhal comes off as abrupt, but I think he actually does his homework and knows what he's talking about. My beef with him is that he talks out of both sides of his mouth and seemingly is afraid to take a stand. Elrich isn't just plain awful. Rose isn't impressive, but she might be our best bet. |
Is this the PP insider? Sounds like it.... |
Elrich isn’t awful or is awful? And why? I was at a recent forum and I liked Krasnow. Blair sounded like a clueless teenager. |
I'm pulling for Rose. She did a good job in Rockville, is doing a good job for the county, and I think the fact that she currently isn't on the Council is a good thing. Time for fresh blood. And female leadership would be nice. |
+1 |
David Blair |
Being deputy director of the Planning Department hardly qualifies as "out of the game". Elrich is a hypocrite. He says that he supports transit, but then he accuses the Planning Department of "ethnic cleansing" on the Purple Line route. He says that he's not part of the government, he's a community activist -- after 19 years on the Takoma Park City Council and three four-year terms on the Montgomery County Council. |
How did that work out with Donald Trump? Montgomery County has a bigger population than Wyoming, Vermont, Alaska, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Delaware, and it's almost as big as Montana and Rhode Island. If a person is going to be the executive of a county with 1.04 million people and a $5.5 billion budget, I want them to have some actual experience in governing. |
No - he can go supervise Badlands instead. |
