Who is your choice for Montgomery County Executive?

Who has sensible ideas for making MoCo diverse but not a indiscriminate sanctuary district?

It’s not a sanctuary district.

I'd go Frick and then Berliner. Elrich is way too liberal, Leventhal is a jerk, and the others don't have the right experience.

But like a PP said, most people don't follow the elections, so the democratic primary is when the exec will be effectively decided. Since there aren't open primaries, I, like 30% of registered voters in MoCo with no affiliation, won't be able to make such a choice in the primaries.

Silly to argue Frick has more relevant experience than Krasnow, leaving aside that he can't seem to decide which elected office he wants to run for.

OP here. I know many don’t follow politics. But local politics actually impact you faster and more personally than federal. School funding. The temporary energy tax we are all still paying. Pot holes as one PP mentioned. Although the cities and the state are responsible for their own roads here. Deer population management. Master plans for different areas like White Flint and Shady Grove. Dog parks and dog leash laws. The bag tax. Traffic. Road construction. Public transit. Crossing guards. These days - School security and safety. Who plows your roads when it snows and who picks up your trash. Minimum wage.

All that has to be managed well.

What news sources best cover local issues? I confess to woeful ignorance about the issues you've raised. Energy tax?

Unfortunately, there aren't many local outlets left. The Bethesda Beat has stepped up to fill the void and it's pretty good.

And the Washington Post. Bill Turque used to cover us, and he was great, but he's gone now. The new folks are OK. Still worth following.

The energy tax was implemented during the recession, but it was meant to be temporary. It's still here.

There is no reason you can’t change your affiliation prior to the election

Yup, plenty of time to do that.

I've thought of it... but I don't really consider myself a democrat or a republican. Yes, nothing to stop me from changing my party affiliation, but it just doesn't seem "right" to me to do so.

It's not a sanctuary district. The police don't withhold info from the feds. There was a proposal to do this in Rockville City itself a year or two ago. I believe it did not pass, but I could be wrong on that. There was a lot of opposition, particularly from the Asian community.

Frick is currently a MD delegate, and worked to end the DLC (liquor) monpoly. Krasnow has been out of the game for over a decade.

Krasnow has been working for the county planning dept since being Rockville mayor. Being a big firm lawyer and a part time delegate with political ambitions isn't actually relevant experience for becoming county exec.

Now you may think he's right on the issues and he'll be a good exec (despite his lack of executive experience) and you may even think the county planning dept hasn't covered itself in glory recently but those are all different arguments.

No George lenenthal. No one who has been in politics before. No rich clueless people.
No David Blair with his rich liberal guilt - many of us working stiffs don’t actually want to give all of our money away to every illegal immigrant who runs across the border that the big businesses then use to increase their profits via paying low wages (and having us middle class people pay for their legal, medical and schooling).

Would be nice to have a conservative smart Democrat running but all I see is people who want to use people’s money to further their own interests.

Conservative Democrat or moderate republican where are you?
