As someone who grew up in Wisconsin, this thread is hilarious. You all need a drink or a Xanax or maybe both

I imagine people in Wisconsin have appropriate winter weather gear, right?

There are kids in this area who don't actually have a winter coat...let alone whatever LL Bean/Columbia/Patagonia fancy pants coats you people wear in the hinterlands.

And regardless of the fancy gear, there's no way a baby or toddler is comfortable being rapidly pushed in a baby jogger while his crazy mommy jogs in this weather.

As a former ER nurse, I have seen frostbite many times.

All except one have been homeless. Those are the people who are at the greatest risk, not your kids who are bundled up and playing outside. And then can come in to a warm house when they are cold. I live in NH now and the wind chill is so severe they are taking the homeless off the streets and putting them in overstuffed centers because they will freeze to death if left on the streets.

The one case that wasn't a drunk was someone who fell through the ice and took hours to seek treatment.

If you bundle up properly and are smart about it, you'll be fine. If you're concerned about those who don't have proper clothing, there are organizations you can donate to or you can make packages and give them to the homeless.

If a kid has enough layers on, they're fine in DC winter weather gear. Not PP, but I've also lived in an area with actual frostbite warnings. Even us poor people figured it out. The amount of time spent outdoors matters more when it gets cold enough, not merely being outside.

If you want to warn people about something (because you feel you must...?), the amount of time on a potential frostbite day is what you tell people.

I will never understand people who freak out about childhood ailments that no one they know has ever encountered. If frostbite was a real danger to the middle and UMC (and just plain rich) people who frequent this site, you'd know people who have actually gotten it. I dare someone to cite a case of a child getting frostbite because of 20 degree weather who was not unhoused.

Your suggestion to make packages for the homeless is a good one. I just remembered we have leftover blankets from the moving company that I understand retain heat incredibly well that I keep meaning to drop off with the shelter down the street. Thank you.

Meanwhile, my kid wore some lined leggings and a pair of wool socks with her winter coat and a regular pair of sneakers this morning and is fine.

I'm shocked by all the moms jogging with little ones in strollers as I drive downtown each morning. How stupid and selfish can you be? There's no way your little one is warm enough as you jog. Get a sitter or jog around your house if you must.

I totally agree with the above poster. Lots of incompetence out there.

You are idiots. How many of you know children who actually have had frostbite. I took my kids out through the entire year. It isn't selfish. You're just absolutely stupid.

Sigh. You have no critical thinking skills.

Can you believe this. When my kids were little I had people chastise me for taking my kids to a grocery store in the winter. After all we've been through in this country, it is so depressing just seeing how stupid people are.

Probably the same ignorant nuts who think being out in the cold will give you a cold.

I hope you are joking. We went on a 30 minute walk today. My son had on a base layer, wool socks, snow boots, a neck gaiter, snow jumpsuit, winter coat, and a hat. He kept yanking his hat off because he was too hot. There is no reason to keep kids inside if its 20-30 minute walk or play. We did afternoon play too for about 20-30 minutes- same getup.
