Watch your kids for frostbite

Hilarious as this is to read, it's tame compared to the complete freak out that's happening in the southern city I live in. Then again, temps did into the 50s and everyone starts pulling out parkas and knit hats.

Yes, it's been cold. Wind chills in the single digits in the mornings. Parents are demanding to know why school isn't canceled because "it's not safe!"

Hi, comrade, I'm with you on dressing for the weather! I remember walking to school at -25C and no one would bat a -- frozen -- eye.

Do people here even know about using undershirts for the kids in the winter?

Hysteria. Parents like you drive me crazy. My child is not going to die of cold or frostbite.

My cats have been outside all week and couldn’t agree with you more!

Not everyone has access to cold weather gear like your well-off children do. Think poor, low-income. Also, kids grow very quickly and working parents don’t always have the time or money to get the right-size outerwear.

Has there ever in the history of DC been a child who got frostbite from normal outdoor activities???

Frostbite cases normally don't get covered by the press.

The CDC says that
If you aren't properly dressed for extremely cold temperatures, you are at risk for frostbite.

I literally have never heard of any child getting frostbite except for kids who were abandoned outside. Does OP actually think a child has ever gotten frostbite in DC? I don't think it has ever happened or will ever happen (barring actual child abuse).

that's for people who get drunk in Duluth and go for a walk in their PJs.

not for a child in DC walking 10 mins to school in 15 degrees and sun and just a little wind wearing a coat.

Or dumb middle schoolers who are too cool for socks.

I guess you haven't read any of those Wind Chill Advisories we've been under and are still under.
