Watch your kids for frostbite

I'm shocked by all the moms jogging with little ones in strollers as I drive downtown each morning. How stupid and selfish can you be? There's no way your little one is warm enough as you jog. Get a sitter or jog around your house if you must.

The Darwin Awards candidates face stiff competition this year. Can't fix stupid.

Also, in Scandinavian countries it's not uncommon for parents to have their infants nap outside, even during the winter: http://www.bbc.com/news/magazine-21537988

I recently spent about 3 weeks in Finland, Denmark, and Sweden, and saw lots of kids outside in subzero temps. They were wearing snowsuits and there were a lot of bunting bags. Apparently the Danes have a saying that goes "there's no bad weather, just bad clothing."

Then put your kid outside for naptime and see how that works for ya, ok, PP??

I had my kids out in the mountains of PA all last week in subzero wind chills. They were perfectly fine in wool socks, lined boots, snow pants, warm clothing, parkas, ski gloves, and hats + hoods plus "vaselined" faces. They were seriously "swimming" in the snow and I had to drag them inside.

BUT I work with young children EOTR and have seen several this morning in flimsy windbreakers, cotton stretch gloves and lightweight hats. Yes, we regularly get cold weather in DC but it is also often relatively mild in the winter, and many children do not have appropriate clothing for the weather.

I'm in the one who posted that article ... are you directing your comment at me? How do you think it would turn out? Are you saying it would turn out badly? Your comment doesn't make a whole lot of sense.

I totally agree that many children in our area don't have appropriate warm clothing.

As a Canadian who lives in a city that had temperatures that were -15 to -30 for the last week, this thread is entertaining!

As someone who has never fallen for the global warming hoax this thread makes me lol.

What do you know about frostbite? Zip?

Unless there is ice repeatedly in contact with your kids’ skin odds are the kid is fine. I seriously doubt any kids in this area are going to turn up with black frost bite patches anytime soon - unless they are prone to laying in the snow for long periods of time naked. It is not even that cold.

Completely illogical but I guess critical thinking isn't your bag. LOL.

I agree with pp upthread who said kids in this area just don't have appropriate gear for this weather. My kids certainly don't, and I never had things for them as babies and toddlers that were good for sub zero temperatures.

IQ alert, extreme weather, including very cold weather and very rainy weather, is indicative of global warming.
Read something besides propaganda some day.

Honestly you can’t. And stupid almost always screws their face up and spews stupid things out of their mouths too.

Omg. I went for a 7 mile fun yesterday and I can tell you that my lungs found it quite refreshing.
In other countries they send the kids out in the cold starting very young as it builds a strong healthy immune system.

But if your habit was to jog with them in the winter, wouldn't you then have the gear for it? I don't have the gear either but I certainly don't assume that the people who are out there regularly by choice in very cold weather don't.

That's the point of this thread. At these temperatures with wind, children don't need to be in contact with ice to get frostbite.
