But its already started changing. Poor whites are getting a smal taste of it now. Hence the "racial anxiety" expressed in that group.

and why we have this shitshow of an administration

stupid fucks, all of them

Not as stupid as you hillarybits who hung your hats on a true loser.

It's highly likely you will remain in financial power for a few a while due to the sheer amount of wealth white Americans have amassed relative to other ethnicities, but the next 50+ years is projected to look radically different for you, and your kids. My question: Does becoming a minority subject to the rule of a majority concern you? Do you fear you will be treated like minorities of color are treated today, and have been historically? What do you feel the future will look like for white Americans?

We are already a minority where we live. NBD. So far no radical change.

Yup, we live in a majority-black city. We're doing just fine.

Same here. We (white people) used to live in a majority Dominican and black neighborhood and were just fine. As to white culture, I believe we had more in common with our neighbors than, say, with rural whites, of whom I know exactly zero.

Jesus get out of your bubble you bigot.

Worst case scenario wouldn't be a race war. We are more civilized than that as a society, even though rhetoric from those like far right media would have you believe otherwise. No, worst case would be forced labor. It worked in building America. It worked in building the wealth of whites today. Tried and true American strategy. Question would be what "forced labor" looks like. Today it's mass incarceration.

Forced labor is quite literally the opposite of incarceration. Unless we bring back the labor camps and make inmates do tough shit like move rocks.

PP saying that she doesn't know any rural whites is not "bigotry", sweetie. Try again.

Ugh this topic is exhausting... I don't care about race. DH is asian and we don't really think about it that much. It's part of who he is, just like being white is part of who I am.

OP- Is your point that soon all minorities will get to stick it to the white folk? I thought the whole argument here is that no one should be judged on skin color- so what's the point?

Just like you see Latino neighborsorhoods where everyone speaks Spanish and the smell of fresh tortillas hangs in the air, I think there will still be country clubs, majority caucasian places with all of our interests. So... people adjust. Does it worry me? No. People are resilient

What is "white culture "?

White is not an ethnicity.

What is black culture? What is asian culture?

black American culture? no clue

Nigerian culture, for example? yes
Japanese culture? again,yes

Culture is mostly tied to countries and their practices. The U. S. really has no one culture, and that's why we have nothing holding us together.

I'm white, but I'm also first gen and was raised bilingual. I don't consider "white" to be my culture.

This is where you go wrong. The minorities will be liberals, conservatives, other persuasions, they will not enact laws based on the color of people's skins. Very interested to hear what other white people say, but no, it doesn't bother me a bit. I give minorities more credit than that.

Good. White Americans have the highest rates for attending college and for marriage. Minorities won't catch up until they marry and stay married.

Black women have higher college graduation rates than any group of women. First generation Immigrants ( south Asians and west Africans ) have higher levels of education than whites . Keep living in your bubble , if you like it I love it

As a teacher, I obviously support those aiming for post-secondary degrees. However, with the watering down of education, social promotion on the rise, and the growth in online courses, I have little faith that our citizens are learning much of anything at this point.

I agree, this thread is so bizarre to me. I don't think about this issue much at all.

But my reactions while reading this thread:

While it's true that "whites" will no longer be the majority, it seems more than a bit odd to assume that people of color will be one monolithic voting bloc. Whites will be a minority group only if the other category is "not white." But the other category is actually several different categories: back, Latino, Asian, mixed. Not only that but people within those categories will have wide ranging views and experiences. I don't know why I should assume that my fellow whites in rural Montana are more like me than the black couple who lives across the street from me in the DC suburbs or my Latina colleague at work. And of course, current voting patterns assure me that I shouldn't. And I'm betting I have more in common with, say, Michelle Obama than I do with Ivanka Trump.

Further, the chances that white families will become mixed are nontrivial. It's already happening to my WASP New England family: two of my cousins married black people, another cousin married a Latina. Hell, one of my uncles and I married Catholics and another uncle and my brother married Jews. So I suppose my WASP "culture" has been dying for some time now, lol. The only time I've ever rued this loss is in thinking about the disappearing Boston accent. But if course that has relatively little to do with race or even immigration, unless you count the movement of any non-New Englander into the area (including, say, Midwestern whites) as "immigration."

Having grown up in New England and now lived in other parts of the country, I don't think "white" is a culture in any meaningful way. I sure didn't feel that way when I showed up at a southern school for college 35 years ago. Amidst many (southern) whites, my culture shock was pretty profound. I do think regional differences have declined sharply in recent years, but I don't think that means whites alone have a shared culture and even if it did, it's a culture that's not very long-standing or deep-rooted. ~shrug~

I worry about what the future holds for my children and for my country, but not because of changing race statistics.

You're thinking of old chain gangs. Today, private business gets their cheap labor from prisoners. Manufacturing is gone from America! It's just that the workers get paid pennies an hour and live behind bars. Their food and shelter is paid with your tax dollars.

The prison industrial complex is brought to you by white people in power. Feel better?

Why did you move? And is your new 'hood diverse?

How many Dominicans from your former 'hood are still your friends to this day?

Living among others who are different doesn't earn you an award in diversity.

This is reminiscent of the demographic freakout by Protestants when Catholic Italians and Irish started arriving en masse.

So, they expanded the definition of "whiteness." The same will happen again.

Would you be ok with your kidsor grandkids rarely if ever seeing white people on TV, toys, commercials, movies, or every other aspect of life? Would you be ok with no longer being the default race?

What makes you think my children or grandchildren (or yours for that matter) won't be part of the brownng?

Who knows. It could be Brazil-like.
