MCPS Security Team Leader at RM charges with Sex Offense

I know they have my email- its on the forms I submit ever year (DC is a junior). I read that other parents have heard something about the incident from the school, which indicates to me that there is poor management. No one is answering the RM office phone today. I wonder what else I have missed.

Are you serious? Just terrible. No excuse. Shouldn't they be looking to see if there are others ASAP???

My DD went through the RMIB program. There is no way that she or any student that she knew would have been so gullible to go with any teacher or staff to a hotel room.

Thank God she had you for a parent.

if only we could clone you, PP . . .

Exactly. Plenty of kids in IB and Magnet that pop Adderall ($2 a pill) to stay up studying all night. A high achiever at Wootton committed suicide 2 years ago because of pressure. Stop acting like the IB clan are angels with their head on perfectly straight while the rest of RM are losers. Most kids stuck in a book all their lives have zero common sense and street smarts. They also rarely socialize. They could be a very easy target.

And the fact that you think your daughter might not do this is one thing, but to say "any IB student that she knew" wouldn't be GULLIBLE either???

Honestly, making me sick blaming the victim. I guess all the IB parents are assholes.

You do protest too much. Wonder why? I think you lack reading comprehension. I did not say that my kid only knew IB students, but it is interesting that you think that's what I said.
Very telling about your biases and where you are coming from.

My kid was in the IB program (RM was not her home school and she did not know anyone coming in) but was also an athlete and eventually got to know many non-IB students through sports. These kids were practicing, participating and competing outside of the normal school day for long periods of time - and they all looked out for each other and knew to spot inappropriate behavior from any adult.

You think that this girl was just a random victim for this predator? He was able to get away with " grooming her " and giving her gifts and taking pictures in the school without anybody noticing. I find it interesting that these incidents was neither reported by another student or adult to the school authorities and the parents/guardian of this girl also knew nothing about the cell phone etc. This is the crux of the problem here.

Please take the MCPS online training for volunteers to spot and report physical and sexual abuse. You sound very ignorant and ill-informed. Predators pick upon kids who are isolated in some ways.

If you think that IB students are stuck in a book all their lives, then it makes sense that they do not have the time to go to a hotel room with an old perv. They probably are doing extra Calculus worksheets or prepping for an exam.

Unless you search your teen rooms (and the rest of the house) daily, how would you know if someone secretly gave them a cell phone unless they told you?

Is all MCPS like that?

As a parent at Rockville HS, we had the same complaint after the rape and the prior assault. Very crappy communication.

Well, then it proves my point that there is some kind of dysfunction, doesn't it? Most normal kids will know that they are not supposed to take a gift like a cell phone from an adult and keep it a secret from the parents. That the girl did not tell her friends or parents about this "relationship" makes for a dysfunctional dynamics where she was likely isolated. And that is precisely why he was able to lure her to a hotel room. This was not a violent rape from a stranger where the victim was unfortunate to be at the wrong place at the wrong time. This was a deliberate "grooming" of a vulnerable student by a pedophile who had expectations of getting away with this. There was no force in getting the girl to the hotel room.

This is really unacceptable. But they've been getting away with this for years.

You have to go on the main page, look for the itty bitty writing and click on another link.

Still no excuse for not sending out an email or phone alert. Parents should not hear this on the news or a forum before the principal.
