MCPS Security Team Leader at RM charges with Sex Offense

However, in this country White men in power - White House, Fox News etc..get away with sexually assaulting women. In MCPS, the race is swept under the rug when it is a White person. If this man was a Hispanic, Black, Asian, Muslim ...there would have been a strong backlash.

Now, someone is posting that it would have been ok for a 57 yr old married White Christian man to assault a 17 year old woman if she was not a student but his neighbor? And that this would have been a relationship but not an assault?

Wow! What a crock of White entitlement.

Please go take some English classes sweetie.

And while you are at it, learn the laws of this country. Age of consent in MD is 16. The PP is right in that outside of school, while disgusting, technically this would be allowed. A 51yr old actor married a 16yr old. Gross but it is not assault.

So stop your white entitlement crap and start assimilating or go live in another country. Not one person here is condoning this man at all. You are starting some "poor Hispanics" BS and it is not working.

Is all MCPS like that?

Like what?

I was reading an article about how a private shool in CA had similar issues. This issue exists in almost every school district.

http://abcnews.go.com/US/passing-trash-women-teachers-sexually-abused-allowed-continue/story?id=46626326

"“Passing the trash” occurs when a teacher accused of sexual misconduct is allowed to leave a school – through a confidentiality or separation agreement - and quietly seek employment at another school without the new employer being alerted to the allegations, ...

Only five states -- Washington, Oregon, Missouri, Pennsylvania and Connecticut -- have laws banning passing the trash..."

What is your point? It happened at a private school in CA so parents should accept that it is happening here in MCPS?

No thanks.

Do you have reading comprehension issues? Where did I say we should just accept it? Again, point is that it happens *everywhere*.

Do you have stupidity issues?

So what if it happens everywhere? This particular incident and the Rockville HS rape case happened here in MoCo. Many of the posters on this board have kids in MCPS. So this matters quite a bit to us, because it could be our kids.

How is that so hard to understand? Terrible that it happened in CA also, but you could always start another thread on sexual abuse issues sound the country.

Do you not read the top of the thread first? The first PP stated "Is all MCPS like that"? I asked, "Like what?.... and stated this issue happens everywhere, even in expensive all girl private schools, so what is so different about MCPS compared to other school districts?

That PP is assuming that MCPS is worse than other districts. My point is that is no different.

I disagree. My nieces are in Loudon County and we have many friends who live there. It doesn't seem to be as much of an issue.

For some reason, MoCo seems to have an issue. I'd like to dig deeper and find out why that is. From this RM case, it appears that MCPS will hire anyone. Regardless of what kind of record they have. That's ridiculous. This man should never been in a Security Lead position.

The Rockville rapists were here ILLEGALLY. They should not have been in this country at all, let alone have access o their victims.

Both of these two cases should have been completely preventable.

I'd love for MCPS to be more transparent and post info about other allegations. If there is anyway to improve this, MCPS and the BOE have the responsibility to do so.

Agree. This is the second adult employee from RM to be charged in the past few years. There was a coach and social studies teacher too. This current guy used to be a police officer with a record. He was charged at a topless bar while intoxicated. How was he ever possibly put in charge of security of teens? There was also the one teacher that was moved to multiple schools instead of fired and so far 6 molestations have come to light. A janitor was arrested in Dec for fondling a 6yr old in the bathroom. An outside contractor assaulted two middle school girls in 2015. This is just the tip of things that have happened. Reports of cover-ups, not letting parents know, shuffling around of teachers with student/parent complaints about contact etc... This does not go on at every school district. At least not to the extent it has here. I can't imagine how much we don't know.

I wish the local media would give this whole story more attention. As an MCPS parent, I can't think of anything more important than student safety. There have been stories here and there, but there really needs to be an organization that puts all of these cases together to make it clear that MCPS has a problem. Apparently, Jack Smith and the BOR do not feel it is a real issue. I have been underwhelmed by their response thus far.

What you don't know but probably assume that MCPS preforms real background checks on new employees. The pretend that they do but in reality they don't. They require that every candidate get fingerprinted and the prints are run through a national file. If nothing extraordinary shows up then MCPS will announce that a background check has been done. All it means is that the candidate has not been caught. A real background check is like that which is done by the fire department and police department.

My kid's aftercare provider does background checks. Why can't MCPS?
Anonymous
They are starting to do them now. I began teaching for MCPS in the mid 2000's and yes, we had fingerprinting done but no real thorough background check. This year, we had to consent to a background check, fill out a form and get it notarized.

MCPS does not have anyone who is trained to do a proper background check. To thoroughly check a candidate for the police department it could take 4-6 months. When you consider the number of employees that are hired every year that would take a lot of new background investigators at a great expense.

This is an interesting point. Maybe we need to put some tax dollars towards background check and allocate that to MCPD? All of these things cost money.

No one seems to like this group but they have compiled a list:

I think it's pretty clear MCPS has a bigger problem than they are willing to admit.
