SWS kids are all adorable puppies and fart unicorn rainbows. At least that is what we hear. Seriously OP, contact the Principal again in writing, copy the Chancellor and Ombudsman and contact MPD separately with a clear recitation of the facts. |

Dcps K teacher here who has had to deal with every one of these incidents in my classroom. OP I am sorry this happening to you and even more sorry
these situations are not isolated and seem to be system wide. I don't teach on cap hill. |
How routine is bullying at the early elementary level? I'm a parent of a kindergartner at an EOTP school, and I haven't heard of anything of the sort in kids this young. It seems out of the norm that bullying as severe and systematic as OP has described would go on in K or 1st grade. Maybe I'm naive? |
I am not the OP - but got the sense that these were older children (3rd graders) bullying a K. At the charter my children attend, older kids wrote nasty things about younger kids on the bathroom walls. Also - not bullying - but not nice - my PreK boy was in the hall bathroom and older kids were there. They asked my 4YO if his older brother was _____. My son said yes. The older boys started saying things that were not nice about my older son (he has a medical condition) |
PP here. I thought the OP mentioned 1st graders, not 3rd graders? Just seems surprising to me. |
| OP -- no suggestions, but I feel terrible for you and your son and I hope DCPS admin can resolve this issue quickly. Good luck. |
SWS and Logan don't have uniforms = "school shirt" so my guess is Tyler, though it could be Brent. |
Kindergartners and 3rd graders were in the library at the same time? Was this also in aftercare? I don't know any aftercare program that puts kindergarteners together with 3rd graders, and I can't figure out when the two grades would mix during the school day. Does Logan mix up the grades like this? |
| I don't think it's Tyler, as that school doesn't have free playground time. Tyler is one of the Playworks schools, where recess time means kids are directed in guided activities, instead of just running around on their own. |
Call the police. I'm serious - that will get the school's attention. A lawyer wouldn't hurt, either. |
| I'm going to guess L-T. |
Not the PP. I suspect she's wanting to know if a child is being targeted because of race. Not an illegitimate question - hate crime statutes exist for a reason. |
|
| So sorry OP. I hope this ends immediately and your son has a wonderful school life for the rest of his life! Hugs to you and your family! |
New poster, but race can be a complicating factor in DCPS with such cases. I unfortunately speak from experience, as several years ago my preschool-agechild was repeatedly attacked quite brutally at school. We had multiple witnesses and incident reports, including from multiple teachers, as well as an outside medical report, but the fact that my high-SES white child was the victim of a black student in a rapidly gentrifying school made it more complicated for the Principal to take effective action. There were just certain political realities related to race that made the (white) Principal more hesitant to act at the time.... (there were other factors at play, too, of course.) Different DPCS school than OP, and a few years ago. |
