Not all kids have playworks every day. Each class has playworks like once or twice a week. So like, the 2nd graders are having playworks on Tuesday while the rest of them are running around. |
But usually there's only one grade out for recess at a time so this post doesn't make sense. Also Tyler has a female librarian. |
| OP, I'm sorry. I have noticed kids in grades K and up (mostly starting at 1st) getting extremely aggressive with younger kids at my Cap Hill school. I've started calling them out/scolding them/talking with their parents when I feel like the behavior has crossed the line. |
Mr. R isn't there any more? |
I believe pp, OP and other posters, but this was not our experience at all in PK at our school...the younger kids were kept separate from the older children 99% of the time and during the rare interactions I witnessed, the bigger kids were very gentle and almost protective of the little ones. Not saying behavior between the big kids was perfect, but I never feared for my 3/4 year old's safety. These stories are shocking and in my eyes reflect poorly on the school's leadership more than the student body. |
This. |
| Please tell us your children are no longer in that hell hole school. PLEASE!! |
+1. I never saw older kids bullying younger kids at our EOTR school that gets no love here. OP, sorry that you are going through this. It is unacceptable. School leadership needs to create a healthy environment for every child. |
| There is no way I would continue in that school, possibly in that neighborhood even. I would move or do anything to avoid even the possibility of anything like that happening again. Best of luck OP, and I hope your kids don't even remember these events in the future. |
No. |
???? Tyler is a full time Playworks school, meaning there is a Playworks coach for every recess, every day. |
What else shoudl OP do? the school is ignorning her so she should just keep sending her kid in to be assualted. And those of you who suggest she just pull him out, um, where is he supposed to go to school? I am assuming this is his IB, why else would he be there? Then DCPS should put him in the school of his parents choice or pay for private. I have been surprised that DCPS will pay for private with kids with special needs and that includes ADD. |
Um DCPS pays for special needs students because of federal law. I agree that the situation sounds untenable but it's crazy to think the police are going to be helpful in anyway. If anything hire a lawyer to figure out how to grt them to move the child to a new school. Focus on a solution. |
What happened to Mr. R? Did he quit or was he fired? |
This sounds terrible. We had bullying issues at another ES (not as bad, but the climate was not healthy for my son), and we left. The school tried, but it is limited in what it can do. |
