Is Duke worth the cost over resident tuition at UVA?

UVA resume won't even get viewed by a real person at many firms, filtered out by HR software.

This is not true. You must have some kind of agenda, or were rejected by UVA or dumped by a UVA grad or dumped for a UVA grad.

It is true. UMD is better than UVA in all areas except for law and business.

No. Not worth it.

Sorry you can't afford it.

I don't have a child in school right now, I'm a college administrator who comes here to give advice and check out the current questions. Thanks for your input on my financial situation though, lol.

In my family, one sibling went to Duke and one went to UVA. One had student loans to repay and one didn't. Both went to grad school - both have been successful in different fields.

I went to Duke and loved it, but wouldn't hesitate to send my kid to UVA or UNC and save the money difference for grad school. The other schools on the list seem too regional to compete with Duke's reputation anywhere but in their area.

Do you know the USNWR college rankings were created to drive people insane?

honest question, did one gain success in a more 'self actualizing' career?

Duke offers pretty generous need-based aid, btw. We got assistance even with an HHI of $150k.

Right, and this fits in with the maxim of "if money is a consideration." If need-based aid brings the cost near, or below, that of UVA, then money doesn't favor UVA.

There is very little daylight between Duke and UVA, other than the price tags. Different families will have different opinions on whether the difference in price tag is a lot or a little. So there's no right answer to this question.

But again, the difference between the schools is the price tag. No appreciable difference in the educational experience.

Total garbage. The quality of students at Duke exceeds those at UVA. The overwhelming majority of UVA students would be rejected from Duke. When it comes to education, the quality of the students around you matters. On that, Duke wins out hands down.

Duke grad, and I say not worth it. Go for UVA and save for grad school.

Also, the marriage poster is ridiculous. Of my many friends from college, I can think of only two who married someone they met at Duke. Both are rock star women who are more accomplished than their husbands. At least when I was there, it was rare for people to actually date.

Not worth it if you will go into debt.

UVA grads are a dime a dozen; Duke is elite.
