Audible laughter. I'm sorry, why? They're all respected and if you finish in the top quartile you're destined for a solid job and/or good grad program. |
This...is something people only say on the internet. Never heard anyone in real life have the balls to say something so short-sighted and stupid. |
Since you asked so nicely? Go to hell. |
| Daughter yes, son no. You want your daughter to meet and marry a smart/rich young man while she's still in her prime. Your son can hold off on marriage until his 30s and as long as he's making good money, he'll have solid prospects. |
Above will probably get flamed, but I agree |
I went to Duke and I know very few women who married men they met in undergrad... |
Yes but you have that credential and network, which likely led to your spouse. |
| Plenty of rich young men and UVA- and some smart and rich ones as well. |
Perhaps but UVA has many more female students than male students and Duke is 50/50. |
| How many times can there be a variety of this same thread? The schools in the hypo change but even the comments stay the same. |
| Likely major? Grad school plans? |
|
DH and I met at Duke undergrad. Currently we live in FL so we're not thrilled about the options for state schools, but if we lived in VA we'd absolutely be in favor of sending our kids to UVA over Duke - for that matter, we're actually debating relocating once it's time for high school.

Duke is a very good school as is UVA.
Despite USNews and other equally ridiculous rankings sources, they gap between them is not huge. If you go to either and do well you will get into the best graduate schools. Save your tuition money for grad. school, your child will have a difficult time entering the upper middle class without a graduate degree. |
Well, PP, you don't get out much. A lot of people say this. And your suggestion that it's short-sighted to be thinking of grad-school expenses defies all logic. |
You might be paying it, but it's still not worth it. |
