Is Duke worth the cost over resident tuition at UVA?

Anonymous
Duke is worth it in my view.

Duke is a marginally better school than UVA but not enough to dismiss in-state tuition. Nobody is going to see a resume and think OMG Duke while chilling on UVA.

I went to one of these instead of Duke.

It's one of the biggest regrets of my life.

Audible laughter. I'm sorry, why? They're all respected and if you finish in the top quartile you're destined for a solid job and/or good grad program.

Nope, sorry--only UVA and UNC are respected.

Florida has an excellent business school.

Duke has just enough magical pull to make it worth it. The name on a resume glitters like gold. Now, if you were Echols at UVA, that might make it harder.

UVA resume won't even get viewed by a real person at many firms, filtered out by HR software.

Huh? I mean, it's a great school too.

Duke, U Chicago ,Hopkins, Stanford , Northwestern, Annapolis , West Point, MIT, CIT, should start a conference to compete with the Ivy League.

UVA would not fit.

Why the" UVA" hate? I dont get it.

This poster has been taking magic mushrooms.

No, "magical pull" is not worth $$.

Duke is a better name than UVA, however not by a lot. If money is a consideration I'd choose UVA and not think twice. If money doesn't really matter I'd go with Duke. Simple as that.

Duke offers pretty generous need-based aid, btw. We got assistance even with an HHI of $150k.

it depends on the firm.

does duke have stronger OCI with more direct recruiting lines?

yes.

but the delta isn't that much greater over UVA McIntire for instance if you are comparing it to duke econ.

Stem subjects is a different matter - esp applied stem like engineering.

LOL it's a fake "gothic" school where they wore down the steps of the buildings to make them look older.

This is not true. You must have some kind of agenda, or were rejected by UVA or dumped by a UVA grad or dumped for a UVA grad.
