Well, first, and this takes a while- start listening. I mean all the time. I mean you know when you're driving and you suddenly think, "God, I feel like I should switch the radio"- do it! Now matter how small. Or "I forgot something in my room"- go up and double check, no matter what. There will be many false alarms, and there will be a few times when it is accurate, an actual premonition. Over time, you will learn to tell the difference between that supernatural "nudge" in the right direction, and just errant, everyday thoughts/worries. But you have to practice it enough to learn it- it's like becoming fluent in a language, there's a long period where you're going to be annoyed and not understanding.

Once you reach the point of being able to understand the actual spiritual messages, then you will recognize them when they come. God will see that you are actually listening, that you have done the work and want to know, and He/She will send you more of them. You'll also be able to recognize the God energy that sends these messages, and so you'll be able to tap into it more at will. This can take a long time to reach that point- I would say it's taken me several years. But it's been worth it, and you are learning and still interacting with God in the meantime.

Things that can help to speed up the process: MEDITATION. Yoga, alone time when you work to connect with God (which is basically meditation). Going to spiritual vertex centers like Sedona, where the veil is thinner and you will be able to feel God more easily.

I once was riding a balky young horse and had a strong and sudden premonition it was going to rear, flip over and crush me if I didn't get off right then. I immediately got off and pulled out my phone, gave the horse to a horse whisperer type Professional before I got the horse back to the stable.

They came to get it the next day. It took one look at the trailer, they put a little pressure on it to get in, and it reared and flipped over so hard it knocked the breath out of itself and couldn't get up for five minutes. Then it got up and did it again.

If I hadn't got off when I did, I firmly believe it would have killed me the day before.

I do think it is connected to religion...I feel that my "guardian angel" sent me the message. Not the first time but the most stark instance. It was so strong--compelling. Not just a little nervousness...I have never been afraid of horses and it wasn't fear. It was just this compelling sense of immediate doom.

"Importance of connection" is quite different from the earlier stated "absolutely key" which implies that a person can't have a premonition without a connection with God. That is not accurate. Premonitions are quite possible without a god connection. Obviously it's key to you, but please be careful about speaking for everyone else.
