Blazer + Tee + Jeans

I don't mean to stunt on publicist PP... but velvet blazers in particular are actually hugely in this season

Actually, enough time has passed from the "wearing blazers over a graphic tee with skinny jeans" trend of the early-mid-aughts that I am pretty sure you could wear any kind of blazer with jeans and still look good.

And as the OP mentioned, boyfriend jeans are really the only kind of jeans to wearing nowadays. You can pull off skinny jeans, sure- but if fashion forward is what you're going for then boyfriend jeans it is. That's kind of crucial.

Leather jackets are in, I think. I'd rather wear that than a satin bomber jacket which just reminds me of Grease.

So while the look isn't the current trend, it is not at all dated, like say, shoulder pads, chokers, or stone washed jeans are. Or belly shirts IGN super low rise jeans.

Update the style of blazer, jeans, and tee, and it still works.

Not sure why not publicist is getting so worked up that a few people disagree with her. Fashion is fluid and not at all monolithic. It seems like she should know that.

Ironically, chokers are back in style.... not that I think I can pull it off now as a 30-something.

That's funny, to me "choker" says older artsy woman. Possibly because I grew up loving Stevie Nicks.

That may be, but the young teens at our holiday party were fighting over the one choker in the Secret Santa pile!

Dated. Yes, circa 1985.

I still like it, but would never wear it in a gazillion years.

Most of the people wearing the looks publicist PP is referring to weren't even born in 1985, so it's probably not dated to them.

Publicist PP- what you don't get is this area is filled with moms with relatively serious jobs who do not dramatically change their look each year. Most of what we have in our closets is 2+ years old. Blazer with jeans is a classic look that has been and will be popular with most "normal", non-fashion types. it's like saying pants are not in style. I'm sure your advice is great for younger people in more fashion-forward cities, but it's not good advice for regular people in a regular city. I would be laughed at if I wore joggers or a satin bomber to work--it would look so out of place, like I was trying way too hard. I think if you are in a city with a relatively conservative style of dress like ours, it's much easier for trendy clothes to go over the line of fashionable to "fashion victim" than in other places.

NP. True but why ask her for "fashion" advice at all or fight it tooth and nail when she doles out what IS the current style and trend. If you want to stick with the no fashion/classic/conservative style and the old clothes in the closet that most DC moms like to wear than don't ask or at least not throw a fit when she answers the question. You do you. Some of us don't work in a conservative workplace and like fashion.

^ AFAIK, OP didnt ask for the publicist's advice specifically. Lots of people showed how the look can be updated with specific trendy items, and pub pp dug in, saying it would always look dated. That's not true. She may know what she's talking about, but she's not the only one.

And I dismiss you snotty"some of us like fashion ." The joy with fashion is that it is NOT simply wrapped around current trends. It can be adopted, adapted, chnaged to mesh with personal style.

Actually yeah: following trends trends is just fashion. Adapting looks to suit your tastes and preferences is style.

I prefer style.

I have a very personal style but like to hear about current fashion trends. The two are not mutually exclusive.

Well so do I. I love trends and adapting them and seeing shows and photo shoots. But op wanted to know if a specific look could still work. And it does. The only universe in which it doesn't is one in which you are slavish to up to the moment trends.

Myself, not my style. I am way too round for it. But I think it still looks good.

Maybe with a new choker? (love that they're in again!)

Not my style either. Too conservative and boring and basically a non fashion look - "classic" - that I agree "looks good" but isn't fashionable. Sure it works and OP will look like all the other non fashionable women in DC.

Thank you. Publicist PP needs to take it down a notch and get over herself a little bit.

It might be more accurate to describe her jeans as jeggings, lol. She wears them super tight - practically painted on.

Anyway ... Publicist PP, if you're still here ... what does one wear in place of a blazer? I'm always cold

Weren't you reading? A satin bomber! Must be on top of all the trends! So that you can have more landfill later!

Only if it has Thinsulate lining! I am the weirdo in the down parka when it's 40 degrees.
