Incident at/outside Maury?

I would personally be happy if they put in speed bumps every ten feet along Constitution from 15th to 3rd, NE.

One thing I haven't seen anyone mention is the poor culture of jaywalking in DC.

I am not blaming the child, of course!!

I am talking about the many, many grownups who set a bad example for children -- including other people's children, it takes a village you know! -- by jaywalking.

My elementary-school-aged kids are super good about crossing the street now, but I worry that when they are older and walking on their own they too will ignore my words and my example and follow the crowd

The poorly timed lights in this part of Capitol Hill actually force you to j-walk. Some of them are so short that you cannot get across unless you walk very fast or even run. For people with any kind of disability, kids in tow, or elderly - they physically can't get across. So, you're better off jay walking when you can see that there are no cars coming, then launching yourself into traffic with a green light that will only last 3 seconds.

They're Maryland assholes. They don't care about DC children.

Oh STFU. No one wants to hurt a child. Don't be so glib.

I'm not the poster you're telling to shut up, but if you see the reckless way they drive on the Hill, you'd probably agree.

How would poorly times lights force one to J-walk?

Truth. I am a very very cautious pedestrian and I have had way too many close calls with Maryland commuters ripping through the Hill.

because it changes red when you are in the middle of the intersection so you're better off just jaywalking when it looks safe.

So true. G st, C st, Constitution, Maryland Avenue, where commuters have punched pedestrians who were in their way. It is an absolute nightmare. It is unbelievable.

From the article: Ward 6 Councilmember Charles Allen said he's working with the MPD First District officers on targeted traffic enforcement to catch those running red lights, stop signs and speeding. He's also considering the possibility of extending school speed zone hours later for those students in after school programs.

WHY IS HE SO WORTHLESS?!?!?!

How about increasing fines and points for school zone traffic violations, Charles? I get it's largely symbolic because MPD and DDOT don't prioritize pedestrian or cyclist safety but there needs to be a well-publicized crackdown.

Important to add "but stable." She has a long road ahead but will survive/no cognitive effects.
