Egypt Air Flight has disappeared from radar

While it is true a surface-to-air Mille can reach that high, those are the very large platform fired mobile launching systems. Not likely to be found in the Mediterranean unless it is on a naval vessel, like the Vincennes (remember that one). A shoulder fired missile is not likely to hit a target that high.

As for hard to get? Not really. The world-wide black market for military weapons is pretty open. Go play on Tor with a few bitcoins and voilà.

If a surface to air missile was used, would it register on other monitors? For example satellite-based?

Platform based? Yes. The exhaust bloom would be detectable if something were looking at it. Shoulder fired, very unlikely.

NP here, if a missile was used, wouldn't the plane just blow up, not make sharp turns, etc?

in this order - aviate, navigate, communicate

All of which are high priorities and can be done simultaneously, among two pilots.

Nope. Missiles normally have proximity fuses. They blow up within a certain distance and the shock and shrapnel do the rest. Like take out most of a wing or a tail section. Plus, an A320 is big. Even if a missile hit dead center the Bakst wouldn't be big enough to blow the whole thing to bits.

Why terror?

Egyptian plane, carrying Egyptians.

Sounds like malfunction or something else happened in the cockpit or with the pilot.

I don't follow your logic. Egypt also has enemies, and terror groups do not care about nationality. Perhaps it was an easy target?

Aviation security expert on bbc speculated about a bomb that might have been planted within the last several days or week given where the plane had traveled. He said a bomb on a timer could have caused the mechanical situation that prompted the swerving and drop.

Other Muslims are the primary victims of radical Islamic terrorists.

Apparently wreckage has been spotted by a Maersk vessel that is doing SAR.

If you want to check the scuttlebutt and prognosticating by the guys who drive these planes, here's the thread

If you're not Muslim- you're a target.

If you're not the right kind of Muslim- you're a target.

I always find it curious when the proselytizing Muslims say the world should all practice Islam and that will make the world right again, you know that incessant need to fix the kaffirs. Because then it becomes, oh now you're Muslim, great, but you're not the right kind so you're damned too.

I really hope that this was a plane malfunction, my prayers are with the families of this tragedy.
