Can't we worry about profiling/silliness when it does happen? I've read from time to time about bald middle black men getting harassed because a dreadlocked black teenager hit up a 7-Eleven an hour ago.

I'd also like to think the MPD and others keep a database of people who're likely to go "OMG Black people in the area!"

I WAS going to post agreement to the post that said if there is a group of increasingly unruly teens without regard to social norms of polite passenger behavior, to go ahead and txt metro PD to let them know. But then it was deleted.

It doesn't matter the race, honestly. If a group of ANYONE (race/age/gender) are aggressively loud or physical in a small enclosed space, it's a reason for concern because it is NOT NORMAL to not constrain your energy, voice and mannerisms in a small physical space.

I have taught my children since infancy to look for patterns in everything, and that pattern of behavior is something to be wary of. If my toddlers are aware and follow social etiquette at their age, damn right it's something to be concerned about when in a small metal tube, someone, especially a group is acting this way.

Yes, if they want government assistance. If they had to live with the consequence of real poverty, the concept of cause & effect might be learned.

Actually, there are much, much safer. I feel comfortable in all these areas. NOMA has Union Market and the Angelika Popup. H St has tons of restaurants. U street has great shopping.

The irony of the Metro Story is that it's so unusual. Such incidents are almost unheard of now.

PP is not making comparisons. PP is responding to the top PP's question, "What do we think would have happened if DC were a concealed carry jurisdiction? What say you? Safer or less safe in a situation like this?"

And I agree with the second PP: the situation would have been much worse if flying bullets had been added to it.

We already tried that in the late 19th century. It didn't seem to help much.
