I am so sorry for this innocent man, but a concussion and a broken jaw is preferable to flying bullets on a train. |
I see. So both of my parents, who knew nothing but extreme poverty while growing up, would have or should have been excused if they had decided to beat the shit out of someone? a total innocent stranger? Am I reading your remark correctly? |
I hope that you don't take the mortgage interest tax deduction or receive a contribution to your health insurance from your employer as a non-taxed benefit. Or, if you do, that you don't have children. |
We need to have a conversation about race, income inequality, inferior education and urban renewal. All well and good.
But first we need to all agree that NOTHING excuses violent, lawless behavior. I don't care if you're rich or poor, or what skintone you have. It's really dangerous and unacceptable to link these things and the behavior of the teens who did this. It's also insulting to the many families living in poverty and disadvantage who raise their kids to be respectful, caring individuals. |
+1 I grew up poor (government cheese poor) and yet somehow made it to adulthood without a criminal record or violence. It's possible. I was also smacked for being a disrespectful cuss on more than one occasion. ![]() |
Have the suspects been apprehended? Based on the unclear WaPo article, it sounds like they got away. How? |
In Washington Post today. Sounds pretty brutal . |
unless you've been in that situation you don't know how you would react. I would like to think I'd do something, but I have no training at all for that kind of situation so I would think the chances of freezing up would be pretty high. how are these kids being raised with no empathy at all for other people? this isn't a SES thing, it's a sociopath thing. there was another article in today's metro section about a college-bound teen being stabbed yesterday just by a playground. ugh. |
Our District's youth just want a "safe space." |
See something, text something: If you see a group of rowdy teens, text Metro Transit Police at 696873 (MyMTPD) so they can prevent the situation from escalating. |
The Post's policy is the most extreme PC. They leave race out of the description because they claim it doesn't add anything. In a sense, the Post is being the opposite of PC because they are essentially saying that in DC the assumption, if not the reality, is that the overwhelming percentage of violent crimes are committed by individuals of one racial group so omitting it from the description won't add anything. |
What exactly do you mean by "PC" here? Is this what you mean? "agreeing with the idea that people should be careful to not use language or behave in a way that could offend a particular group of people" http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/politically%20correct |
This. They talk about the teens' upbringing, but what about the lazyminded cretins who raised you all to be the hateful racists that you are? You are impeding progress as surely as those teens are. |
What white flight? DC is Yuppieville! Now, even NOMA, H St and U St look like Upper Caucasia! When's the last time you walked through town? |
That is exactly what some people want everyone to believe. Of course, a person's SES has huge impact; but there are many, many people who don't turn to violence. and it's incredibly insulting to those who have few material goods but live amazing lives giving back to others. |
