Actually, the feeling of being hungry goes away pretty quickly. It's not like a building hunger that lasts all day. It's just a feeling that comes and then goes. 500 calories is actually a pretty good amount of food, depending on what you eat.

Anyway, it works for me! I recommend it, but it might not be for everyone.

Of course it works for you. It's starvation.

OP, most people who post on these boards have eating disorders. Tread carefully.

And you know this how?

She thinks people who don't eat buckets of sugar have an eating disorder.

I'm not pp, but that's wrong. Promoting diets where you eat 500 calories a day, or never touch a piece of bread, is not responsible.

500 calories is perfectly reasonable for most people who need to lose weight and are on an intermittent fasting regimen. Healthy, even.[/quote

This is exactly what I am talking about. Don't take advice from someone who thinks 500 calories per day is "healthy".

As opposed to taking advice from someone who hasn't done the research?

Please show me the research showing that 500 calories a day is healthy. Everything I have run across says that VLCDs are terrible for your health and mental state.

No one ever wants to hear from people who slowly but surely lost weight, got fit, and kept it off. Instead they want to hear from the depressed yo yo dieters who eat 500 calories and ruin their bodies.

No one has suggested 500 calories every day. It's called intermittent fasting for a reason. It's very doable, research shows it's very good for your health, and I have no idea where you get the idea about depressed people in poor mental health caused by intermittent fasting. Your imagination, clearly.

Get off your high horse. Don't think it's a good idea despite the evidence? Then don't do it.

What evidence besides the people Mommyho "invented" this crazy diet? Something tells me this hasn't been vetted by any peer reviewed medical journal. B

Correct, disordered eating is not good advice for someone who is trying to lose weight.

I get pretty hungry by early afternoon on fasting days but have dinner early and it's all good.

I have more energy while intermittent fasting than not. I've upped my running game and feel really good in general.

You go running on days when you only eat 500 calories?

NP here who also has no problems whatsoever with fasted cardio. No dizziness, no problem. And I climb about 150 flights of stairs in 30 min.

I cannot, however, fast on the days when I lift heavy!!

What do you eat the day after you lift? You can't recover and build muscle on 500 calories.

New poster. I actually asked my endocrinologist about intermittent fasting and he said he thought it was promising and safe if done correctly. He said it works for some people, and by "works," he meant that it not only helps some people get their weight under control but also can be a sustainable lifestyle for them. YMMV.

I wasn't going to post until I saw people bashing intermittent fasting. It changed my mothers life. She started intermittent fasting 2 years ago and along with losing 20 pounds slowly, she has been able to go off of her cholesterol medication and she is no longer pre diabetic. She fasts until about 3-4 pm on weekdays and then eats a normal dinner and maybe a healthy snack before bed. She eats normal on weekends. She is 60 years old and NOTHING worked for her before she found intermittent fasting. She says it just feels natural and she has more energy than ever. I also have been intermittent fasting for the last year and have lost 10 pounds. It is the easiest weight I have ever lost.

Put down the doritos. Not shoving food in your gullet every 2 hours won't kill you.

As for peer reviewed medical journals, you obviously don't even have the slightest clue how to do any research.
