Do white people get offended by the phrase "Cracker"?

Anonymous
I've never heard it IRL, just in movies/tv

Are you offended by the N word or. If someone called you "boy"? Any word or phrase that denigrates another person is offensive.

The word is "hear" not "here."

That is because OP is a race baiting troll and sounds quite stupid.

I think it's a funny word. If someone called me a cracker, I'd probably crack up.

We were driving a couple years ago and my daughter (then 4) randomly yelled out, "CRACKER!" I yelled back, "HONKY!" and she was like, "what?" Humor is wasted on little kids.

For me it kinda takes away any sympathy I have for you as an oppressed minority, because it just makes me think you are an ass, i.e. I don't like you as a person, regardless of your race or sexual orientation.

Gay people call straight people "breeders"? Okay, I kind of think that's hilarious.

I do hate the term "hillbilly." I'm not from the mountains so it's not directed at me, but I usually call out people for that.

Breeders is funny. I also heard children referred to as "crotch droppings," which is hilarious!

Both ate crude and common.

How old are you and what kind of groups do you hang out with?

I've hear that term quite often and used it myself sometimes when I'm mad. I try not to nowadays because don't want my kids to pick up those words or traits. But I think it's still a commonly used term, at least for my generation.

lol, never heard of the term breeders. Too funny.

I am 46 years old and I hang out with regular, professional AAs. We never use the word. It sounds stupid. I smell Troll!

LMFAO!! You are hilarious

EVERYONE in my office (well besides me, but I've only been around a few years) calls everyone else cracka. It's how they greet each other and sign off every phone conversation (Alright Cracka!). I'm a Black chick and get called cracka. <shrug>

Well I would hope that you don't hear that term or any other slang or slurs in a professional work environment.

Think Dave Chappelle's skit about keeping it real.

btw. Speaking of Dave Chappelle, I kind of recall him using the word cracker. And found this link:
http://www.usatoday.com/story/life/people/2013/09/05/dave-chappelle-hartford-connecticut-chicago/2769817/

Where he refers to using the word cracker as a derogatory term as well.

So it's a term used out there. Maybe not by everybody.

Its hypocritical to dish it out but not be willing to take it so I would suggest that all people work to keep a civil tongue in their respective heads and then we can all get along much better.

+1

I've seen it used once or twice on DCUM by someone who writes with very angry wording. It's offensive. None of us should be using racial slurs of any kind.

I am 48, a professional who hangs out with other professional AA's. I do not use the word myself but I have heard it used many time.

I wouldn't be offended. I would think you were a bit behind the time if you are still using the word "cracker" as a racial slur. Even George Jefferson used the word "honky" and that was like 40 years ago. Who the hell still says "cracker"??? There must be a more modern word to insult whitey. If not, then there should be!

If you were raised in the South, then you would know. Yes. I would find it very offensive. I find using racial slurs towards any racial group offensive. Cracker is a racial slur.

Unfortunately, this. I know it is meant as an insult, but it often just comes across as funny.
Especially since I consider it an insult aimed at working class rural whites. If I were poor, I think I would be offended but in all honesty, being white, educated, and upper middle class is like having a special pass (think Eddie Murphy's SNL skit where he passed as white). An insult like that won't hurt me.

OTOH, I will call people out when they use that term, or redneck or white trash or trailer trash to describe working class white people. It's insulting and derogatory. And I should add, it's disturbing to see how many people think it's okay to stereotype poor white folks who would never stereotype poor blacks.
