Just the wedding - without counting rings or the honeymoon - about $16K in 1996 in the deep South for about 300 guests. We kept costs down (yes, for 300 people this is down) by not having it at my FIL's club, and I wore my mother's dress. We also did super heavy hors d'oevures (sp?) instead of a seated dinner and beer, wine and champaigne (no hard liquor - DH's family are Baptists). We had a band and a dance floor and partied until midnight, so we didn't feel like we were on a budget! I have already started wedding funds for my kids because I, too, thought the $50K wedding was the norm around here, and am so glad to see it is not! |
50,000 in 2004. 300 people |
About $10,000 in 2003 for 80 people at the Jersey shore. Not including rings and honeymoon. Dress was $300 at Nordstrom (not a wedding dress). Venue and catering was the most expensive element. |
Just curious: Did your ex write a memoir about his divorce? |
$35K, 2009, downtown DC for 100 people...and I was really proud of us for keeping it that "low". Now I feel bad after reading all the other responses! |
$30.00
($20.00 for 2 blood tests + $10.00 for marriage license) |
I thought the question was about the wedding. We spent $20,000 on the wedding day itself - dress, tux, reception - but it goes up another $8,000 if you include the honeymoon. |
2006, in downtown DC (Georgetown/Dupont), $28k, 200+ guests. |
45K including rings and honeymoon, 100 people in DC in 2003 |
Twenty or thirty bucks. |
Outdoor wedding on the water in southern Va. for 175 people in 2006-48K at a historic house museum. |
About $20,000 in 2000. The reception at a nice hotel was $10,000, the dress was about $2000, and the wedding coordinator was $1000. |
$45K excluding rings/honeymoon in NoVa in 2002. 160 guests. |
I'm almost embarrassed to say my dress was also a little over 5K, and the wedding in Washington, DC in 2006 was about $150K for 150 people. My father paid for all of it. If I had to do it over, I would have chosen his other option of giving us the $150K as a down payment on our house, and having a smaller, simple affair. |
PP here. Having said that, we had the BEST time at our wedding, and everyone still says how much fun our wedding was, and so I don't exactly regret it, but it is a lot of money. |
