Diet, exercise, and vitamins.

I'm 25, have PCOS, and got the wonderful weight gain and hirsutism that comes along with it. But I have a clotting disorder so I can't take BCP at all. My doctor has me on a heavy regimen of vitamins, especially C and D (Thorne brand.) Then I also take a vitamin called Pregnitude... Yes it's made to help female fertility, but the Folic acid and Myo-Inositol are awesome for reproductive health in general. As for diet, avoid soy (our bodies respond to the phyto-estrogens, and with PCOS we have too much estrogen as is) and stick to a whole foods diet with lots of colorful veggies, fish, and water. Los of fiber as well, to slow digestion and level out insulin release (because there is a correlation between insulin and our ovaries.)

So far, I've lost 30 pounds and my periods have come back after being completely absent for 3 years. I feel a whole lot better since my hormones have leveled out. No, it's not an immediate solution to the hair problem, but it solves the underlying cause of it.

You can buy fairly cheap at-home electrolysis kits like this one: http://www.amazon.com/Clean-Easy-Deluxe-Home-Electrolysis/dp/B002QXLM3I/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1381879734&sr=8-1&keywords=electrolysis+hair+removal

It's a little fiddly to use at first, but with a little practice it's easy enough. I set it to the highest, or near highest, setting. Because it leaves red marks that take a few days to heal, you will want to do just a few hairs at a time. But after a few days or weeks, depending on your needs--presto, they're gone forever. Then as new ones emerge in new places over the next months and years, you can zap them too.

Whenever I zap a new hair, I think about how, if my plane ever crashes on a desert island, at least I won't have to worry about this part of grooming!

Waxing is my solution too. I started noticing them about 5 years ago but only recently started waxing.

Menopause. How do you not know this ?

I don't know that because I'm 36, and this started on my face in my late 20's, and my period has been going strong all that time, religiously. So how can that ONE symptom be menopause?

I'm genetically hairy. Spend a lot of time shaving and plucking.

I started getting them at 17. I think it's just genetics.

leave it let them grow in and then they would eventally grow out of you

Don't do electrolosis -- I did it in my twenties and the scarring shows up much later. I supposedly had the best electrologist out there. But everyone's skin reacts differently. I did laser and the face is the most resistant to treat bc each time your hormones shift in life, it seems hair reacts to it. I had thick hair on my head, it's much thinner now at 43. Laser is not permanent -- but it is still the best option if you can afford it. Do the series. Then get refreshers. When it's all gone, don't think it's forever. You just get a "break"...in two years, if your hormones have changed or are in continual flux, the hair will come thru...maybe not exactly the same place but it will. I noticed it after a miscarriage especially -- just boom. Laser works best bc plucking bc's such a near daily hassle, that you begin carrying tweezers in your handbag, bc at the red light when u check your face, that's when u really see it...sunlight, sigh. Hormones, triple sigh. It's part of being a woman in shift...good luck.

Laser works amazing though on the underarms, the bikini line, and the legs -- amazing. The face is a struggle. But what else are you going to do? Walk around with that crap messing with your self esteem. Just get rid of it. Consider it part of a woman's routine...and know, you are most certainly not alone. ) It's not the end of the world...just one more pain in the rear beauty routine.

I don't know. Puberty?

I honestly don't know but so does my friend. U can wear turtle necks to hide the hairs. :D

Lately I've noticed some dark black/brown hairs starting to grow under my chin on my neck. I constantly pluck them out. I'm a 37 YO white female...and they only just started to show! WTF? Why are they coming? Is my only permanent solution electrolysis/laser hair removal? UGH!!

Any thoughts or comisserations appreciated.

Thanks.

I just want to say...I have lots of body hair. I am blonde. I shave my legs and over the years the hair has started to get darker and thicker. The more I shave, the darker and thicker it gets. It's not a myth guys XP It doesn't bother me as I just don't have the money to do anything else than shaving...but if it bothers you: don't shave. The hair around my ankles is dark brown now, the higher up on my leg it goes the blonder it still is. Quite funny actually XP

I also get the occasional beard hair on my chin and just pluck it. It doesn't bother me. It has to do with hormonal levels. If you want to fix the underlying cause, that's where you can start

Really? It seems like scarring would be immediate, or would never show up. Are you sure you aren't seeing sun damage?
