Yuck..
Lately I've noticed some dark black/brown hairs starting to grow under my chin on my neck. I constantly pluck them out. I'm a 37 YO white female...and they only just started to show! WTF? Why are they coming? Is my only permanent solution electrolysis/laser hair removal? UGH!! Any thoughts or comisserations appreciated. Thanks. |
| I have the same - also some on my cheek. I am 38 and have had them for 5-10 years now. I just pluck them every week or so - or when I can feel them or see them. |

Srsly?
Menopause. How do you not know this ? |
Lol. Because this is relevant. |
Now I'm depressed. I'm 32 and they started about a year ago, after my second pregnancy. |
Well, age and gender at least are definitely relevant. Not sure about the white part though... Sis, it's part of getting older. Welcome to the club. Just wait until they start popping up on the outside (and inside) of your ears! (I'm just remembering my grandma, god bless her - I loved her dearly, but attractive, she was not). It does suck, I'm also 37 and noticed the odd chin-hair a few years ago for the first time. Those I just pluck. What I really hate is that nowadays I have to wax my lips in addition to my eyebrows. Lips never used to be a problem two pregnancies and 5 or so years ago. It seems like each year just adds a few more things to the list of "must do"s before we can feel put together. Good luck! |
| You're getting old. Sorry! Am there, doing that. |
| Or you could just be hairy -- like me. |
| It's not menopause, so don't worry about that. But it is a sign of getting older (hormonal). I'm 40 and for the past 3-4 years have noticed occasional "man hairs" under my chin. No more than 2-3 at a time. I have a 10x mag mirror and keep them under control ALWAYS by plucking them. Be ever vigilant. |
| I added a chin wax to my list of waxing. I had them lasered a few years ago, but they are back. |
| It's not necessarily age, but it is hormonal. I started getting them big time when I was 18 and started on the pill. I did electrolysis. |
|
DO NOT PLUCK THEM!!!! Get electrolysis. Plucking them is going to make it worse. I am NOT an electrolysis practitioner, but someone who has had the exact same post-partum hair growth issue and plucked and did laser and now have done electrolysis and they are gone. If you pluck or wax, on the chin, you are going to stimulate growth--it is a hormonal thing. I can tell you I started with one or two, and then, well, ugh.
Get electrolysis. It is a time committment, but having done laser, which IS NOT permanent, electro is the way to go. But please don't pluck. Huge mistake. |
Not OP, but I see maybe 2-3 hairs maybe once a month. I'm not spending $$$ on electrolysis when my trusty $5 tweezer is at hand.
|
right. and shaving makes the hair come back darker.

If plucking or shaving made hair come in coarser or stimulated growth, don't you think every balding man in the US would be plucking or shaving? It has no impact on the regrowth. Shaving makes it look coarser because the hair emerges not as a new hair, but as one that has been cut straight across.
'Tis hormones causing the hair growth. Could be a post-pregnancy thing. Could be a result of your current birth control. Spend the money on decent tweezers (Tweezerman or better) and the strays are pretty easy to grab. |
