FCPS Skyview Boundary Scenario 1/2/3

A bus all the way out to Westfield, followed by another bus all the way back to Skyview. Make it make sense.

That makes zero sense. Robinson, Lake Braddock, Hayfield are on 8-2:45.

Skyview could share Carson buses. Bell is 7:30=2:15. 2:15 out at Skyview gives time for sports shuttle transport

That's a good idea. Someone should send in the suggestion.

No, rising 9th graders could chose to opt in or attend their current school. She might not have transportation Junior and Senior year if your house is in boundary for Skyview.

We are currently bordered for Oakton HS. Based on scenario 3, it may change to Chantilly HS. We want to stay at Oakton.

You won’t have that option. The only school where there has been a choice is Skyview. The recent boundary changes did not give the students a choice to stay at their HS unless they were rising Seniors.

This is not true. All current HS students affected by the recent boundary changes are grandfathered with transportation. Some students in middle and elementary school also have the option to stay at their current schools but FCPS isn’t providing transportation.

This may not be accurate. They have been super vague about the grandfathering and I seem to recall them saying at the meeting last week that only 11th graders would be guaranteed.

One possible plan for this coming school year is that Skyview students will dismiss at 2:25 so that they can take busses to their base school. From their base school, students are either participating in sports or taking a bus home.

If you are that close, you or your spouse should just drop the kid off.

How about the afternoon? School ends at 2:45 and we're both at work.
surely, you can talk through the options and figure what works best for your family.

It just seems that their priorities are misplaced. The base schools will have lots of juniors and seniors, as well as younger students who have stayed because they'd like to participate in sports or some other after-school activity. It's a group that is less likely to ride the bus home, because they're driving themselves and/or remaining at school after the buses leave. Meanwhile Skyview will be limited to freshmen and sophomores who won't be driving or playing sports.

Allow rising 6th grade students, as well as kids who are in either middle or high school, to continue at their current school if they can provide their own transportation. Everyone else needs to move to their new school. It isn't that big of a deal. People need to stop whining so much.

Shouldn’t listen to feedback from constituents and families? You are the reason that the Democratic Party keeps getting shellacked. Too dumb for words.

They don't need to listen to all the whining people. School boundaries change. That's just reality. Get over it.

Along with that gem I posted, Hughes/SL and SCMS/HS should share buses. Cooper is on the 7:30-2:15. Langley is a straight 1.4 mile run down Georgetown Pike from Cooper. That thing is in boundary only for AAP. Should get Cooper then Langley drop off until such time as my taxes are no longer paying to cart people whose parents vote at Herndon HS to Langley.

Good in theory. Might depend on the utilization of the current buses. Are they full?

You need to distinguish between students affected by the changes adopted this January affecting other schools and whatever they decide to do relating to Skyview. The former, which a PP referred to, has already been decided.

What do you want? Buses dedicated to Skyview driving all over Fairfax to pick up Skyview only students? There aren't enough buses or drivers, and Larla would have a two hour bus ride with such long routes.

Great. It’s not even noon and you’re complaining about Langley already, when Langley has nothing to do with the Skyview boundaries.

How about having the buses that are already coming from base schools all over Fairfax (and likely aren't full) stop within the Skyview boundary and pick up some kids who live there?

Anonymous wrote:It's weird that they think it will take this long to get an acceptable boundary map I guess it's an acknowledgment of their own incompetence to say they need this many rounds of review and refinement. It really wasn't always this drawn out and laborious, but there used to be competent FCPS employees who understood the county better.

It's not that it takes a long time to come up with a map. It's that no matter what the map looks like there will be some people who are rabidly fighting against it. All this public input is fine to make sure they don't make any obvious mistakes, but they shouldn't let people think they have any actual say in the decision in the end. The school board should be drawing maps based on what is best for the school system as a whole - not on which groups scream the loudest about which school they think they are entitled to attend.

Based on the fact that 1 of the 3 options get picked or roughly something like one of those with some changes, based on the fact that Skyview doesn't have sports, based on the fact that Skyview is going to offer AP, engineering oriented courses, what is your opinion on where this school will stand in terms of rankings within FCPS. If TJ is #1, Langley is #2, Woodson is #4, Oakton is #5, Chantilly is #8, where do you see Skyview fitting?

It’s not even noon and you’ve found a way to attack Langley, which is not part of the Skyview boundary review.

When they say “grumble, grumble,” know that they are talking about people like you.
