FCPS Skyview Boundary Scenario 1/2/3

Will this whole boundary thing be done by next school year? I’m new to this whole sky-view/boundary map thing. If my kid is a rising 9th grader, and would be going to her current base school, would she be forced to switch during the next school year?…

No, rising 9th graders could chose to opt in or attend their current school. She might not have transportation Junior and Senior year if your house is in boundary for Skyview.

No, rising 9th graders could chose to opt in or attend their current school. She might not have transportation Junior and Senior year if your house is in boundary for Skyview.

The new boundaries don’t take effect until 2017-2028. Is OP saying her child right now is a rising freshman? That means potentially for sophomore, junior and senior year she would have to provide transportation if their boundary changes. However I bet the kids who have already started high school elsewhere will be grandfathered in with transportation.

Rising Juniors and Seniors were not given the option of opting in and will have transportation, which means that there are busses for Freshman and Sophomores.

If the OP has rising 8th grader this year and are in boundary they might be able to opt out of Skyview for 27-28, that was the original plan. I don’t know that they will stick to that if there are sports in the second year.

You dont choose four years of courses as a rising freshman.

They transfer to the new school. My kid has done it two times this year, base school, Skyview, and TJ. It isn’t hard

They just need to set new boundaries and stop listening to all the whining from so many communities. Allow rising 6th grade students, as well as kids who are in either middle or high school, to continue at their current school if they can provide their own transportation. Everyone else needs to move to their new school. It isn't that big of a deal. People need to stop whining so much.

This is not true. All current HS students affected by the recent boundary changes are grandfathered with transportation. Some students in middle and elementary school also have the option to stay at their current schools but FCPS isn’t providing transportation.

Sure, they should listen. But the point of having elected "experts" is they are supposed to use their judgment to make the best decisions for the *school system as a whole*.
Every single decision shouldn't be put to a majority vote or a "who cries the hardest" vote.
