If they're not back Monday everyone in office should be voted out. That is a total collapse of the bare minimum government services

This is also a once in a decade storm. Once in a lifetime pandemic. What's next oh?

And Monday will be over a week since the storm ended. That is a colossal failure if they can't get schools back open in a week.

You would have had a stroke in 2009.

That was back to back storms. This is one storm that they will have had over a week to clear. Christ people, if you can't handle the snow, move south!

You...you had pure snow? I had 6 inches of snow followed by 8 hours of sleet, sometimes heavy bands of sleet. I used my garden shovel to chop ice blocks and dh and our 2 teens used snow shovels to carry it away. It took a total of 5 hours to do 2 cars, our porch and walkway stairs and the side in front of our townhouse on Monday. If we only had snow like you, we could've done it all in 1.5 hours. Oh yeah, the main road out of my neighborhood still hasn't been plowed and it is pure ice.

No one will be there to teach them.

The county needs to start calling subs to see who wants to risk their hips to come in on Friday.

I saw plenty of people out and about today in the county. Most main roads are cleared.

Why should schools remain closed while everything else is open?

Why do you pose stupid questions? Has been discussed across multiple threads. The schools and transportation not ready.

Plus the thought of extending the school year is dreadful. Everyone is so checked out once June hits and the sun doesn't go down until after 8pm. I hope we go back Friday but from what I'm hearing, that's not likely.

How do you manage a classroom with more than three kids plus friends? Who are you amd at what school do you work? That's scary.

Huh? You don't go through food like crazy in a classroom. Did you think teachers' grocery budgets were unlimited?

A teacher says they can't wait to get back to routine and classroom. And your take away is not, "there are people out there who love and serve our kids in schools every day" but instead, "I'm sure this teacher has bad classroom management". Attitudes like this are one of the reasons I left teaching.

DCPS is open with 2 hr delay on both Thursday and Friday. But they don't have their own fleet of buses and hundreds of miles of bus routes to contend with.

Maybe we'll be open on Friday with a 2hr delay.

No MCPS will not be ready. It is the largest county in MD. If they open on Monday it will be a miracle after a weekend of cleaning out.

DTSS here. Multiple small businesses I personally use remained closed today. The main roads near me are not thoroughly cleared. Light traffic can get through (though I saw several accidents!), but there were significant lane closures. I avoided side streets as they were all de facto one way traffic.

FYI, PG County announced about an hour they will be closed Friday, although it's not showing up on WTOP yet.

^ MCPS has been following PG county lately

The family-run stores across from my house in downtown Bethesda were struggling to shovel their parking lot today.

2009, 2016, 2020, 2026

Schools were closed for 2 straight weeks in 2009. Everyone still graduated high school and got into colleges. My kid being one of them. Its not a big deal.

DCPS had asynchronous learning today Wednesday and is back tomorrow Thursday with a 2 hour delay.

I doubt MCPS will be back Friday and it’s embarrassing.
