What about this Friday?

It’s disappointing that we can’t have virtual learning for the secondary level in such situations. The kids all have chromebooks. While young children get a lot out of playing in snow, high schoolers need to learn to get into college.

Other MD counties just closed through Friday, but sure — MCPS is the problem 🙄

Between my husband and I, we cleared out the front and back of our house, as well as a few parking spots. We had a shovel.

Congrats.

Yes, why don't we just stay home til March because it's impossible to go to school if there's any snow or ice on the ground. And while we're at it, let's cancel school for the winter and have school for July and August instead

MCPS isn’t closing because there’s snow vibes—they’re closing because parking lots, bus loops, and sidewalks are literal skating rinks and plows don’t magically clear acres of asphalt overnight.

It's not overnight. It stopped snowing over 72 hours ago!

And Friday isn't for another 36 hours. There's time to clear.

They could have EASILY done virtual. With proper planning. Virtual would require availability of chromebooks and distribution to students last week, OR organized enough to distribute Chromebooks to students yesterday via meal distribution sites for virtual learning today and tomorrow, and possibly Friday. But, alas, this is where the once premier public school district is in 2026 after having already done virtual "well enough" six years ago.

If just 1 week of interrupted learning will affect your child's chance at getting into college then we need to have a real serious talk about which branch of the military is best for them.

Good for YOU. And now back to MCPS.

I walk my dog in two Bethesda neighborhoods: the snowplow walls block street crossings and I don’t see them being removed by Bobcats, which they should be if this country cared for pedestrians. Some of them are huge. It just sucks for the poor kids who walk to school, but we can’t wait for them to melt on their own.

There is no win-win.

Not at the rate they are going.

I think MCPS should be open. Maybe a two-hour delay but not sure why school should remain closed by Friday.

Snowblowers can’t touch this stuff. I don’t even know if Bobcats can. They’re glaciers.

Good thing nobody pays you to think

Having been out there working on sidewalks and parking lots the last two days, the only thing that is really going to work is going at it with gardening shovels and very slowly chipping away at these mounds. It's realistically going to take a lot of volunteer manpower to make any sort of real impact.

They’ll be back Tuesday. Try to stay calm y’all.

City of Rockville was out last night with bulldozers and dump trucks to haul it away. The news said Mont Cty was doing similar. It boggles my mind why resources that have the ability to help aren’t helping to clear the schools and other public buildings. I realize they’re different departments but sometimes can’t you help each other out.
