Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS)
MCPS isn’t closing because there’s snow vibes—they’re closing because parking lots, bus loops, and sidewalks are literal skating rinks and plows don’t magically clear acres of asphalt overnight. |
| Roads are looking much better in Bethesda area compared to yesterday. If its the same level of progress then maybe we will have school on Friday. |
It's not overnight. It stopped snowing over 72 hours ago! |
Strange comment under the circumstances. Because it has been cold, we're basically just dealing with snow. Yes, it is hard snow, but we're not dealing with frozen rain or refrozen meltwater like other events. |
Bethesda is a small part of the county. The rest of it looks bad. |
Between Poolesville and Gaithersburg the roads are clear. They're fine between Gaithersburg and Frederick, too. |
| Rural areas have it worse than urban parts of Bethesda. Closed Friday. If anyone has update on bus depot, that could give an idea. It could even be late opening next Monday. Temps are minus. It will only get above freezing next week. |
They are an utter mess in Silver Spring. Disappearing lanes on Georgia and Colesville. Bus routes that are one lane, cars can only go in one direction. |
| The elementary school in my neighborhood has one person and a shovel. (And I would have helped were it not for the bronchitis.) The majority of building service staff were reallocated to clear facilities being used as food distribution sites. Yes it is difficult and a major distribution in a year/decade when everything feels difficult. Yelling and pointing fingers at people here doesn't reopen school. It just makes everyone angrier. |

It’s ice, not snow. Have you tried moving what’s outside yourself? If the lots aren’t safe, schools don’t open. This isn’t hard.
Other MD counties just closed through Friday, but sure — MCPS is the problem 🙄 |
| Our immediate area has its streets fully plowed but the sidewalks and bus stops are buried. I can’t imagine where and how the kids would wait for a school bus. |
I'm in Gaithersburg and the roads are chest enough for the ten people that were out. Add regular commuters, school buses, and kids who walk and it'll be a day of fatalities. |
| I still can’t get out of my driveway. Snowplow gave up on my cul-de-sac, left and hasn’t come back. |
Between my husband and I, we cleared out the front and back of our house, as well as a few parking spots. We had a shovel. |
| Let’s go virtual so we can count it as a school day. It’s going to eat into the next week in June if they need to replace all of these snow days. |
