If you went somewhere for holiday break, how much did it cost?

Didn't add it up, but I'm thinking around 15K for two adults and a teen to go to Hawaii. Flights were about $1400 pp. Hotel rooms were $5,800 for 5 nights (plus parking and resort fees added $100 per night). Car rental was around $700. Boarding the dog was $500. Then there were excursions, food, souvenirs, etc.

$30,000 total for family of 4.

~2.5k pp flights, 5-600/night hotels which mostly include activities and often food
Ends up similar to the skiers

Interesting. The “hotels” looked a little too rough for my liking but that makes sense that they are so inexpensive.

What? This is middle-upper tier. Not the highest end ultra luxury spots, but certainly nice. Did you do the conversion wrong?

So much more than I meant to spend when I started planning. But we paid for a bunch of upgrades to make life easier for our family of 5. Also, we didn't do any grocery shopping and so ate out for the full 10 days. I haven't added it up, but I would guess 20k?

Forgot about the dog kennel. That was $3000

Tell us more. Must have been for a pack of dogs! Or more than 5 nights away

Yes had to drop off a night early because of early flight and then didn’t pick up until two mornings after we got home since they were closed for the holiday. More than one dog, luxury suite. Ridiculous imo.

Why do your dogs need a "luxury suite"?

Is this perfect pet resort? I was looking at that too and when I looked (months ago) they only had the luxury suites still available. Also if you have more than one dog, you can put them in together if you get a bigger room. My guess is Pp also got some extras for the dogs (which I would too). We ended up finding a neighbor and boarding our two for $1000 for 10 days.

Weather was nice, but resort was so busy service really suffered and will make us think next time.

So spent 6k+ to go to Florida for 5 nights?

jesus, 7000 for 2 people to go to Mexico/
That’s all in including 2 destination in Mexico so 4 flights - all direct. Maybe in lower season it would be 4-5k but my kid is in school then. Worth it to me.

Your price isn’t unusual. People have all kinds of different budgets. Personally I hate going anywhere in high season because there are too many people. But I get it.

Anonymous wrote:West coast to Boston (family), plane tickets were $4000 for a family of four. We used Alaska companion fare to get it to half price ($2k), then had to change the ticket which added $1k total. Other than that, had to rent a car for a couple days ($200), went on an overnight excursion while there, which was about another $1000. Also bought incidental groceries/meals while visiting family. So, a little north of $6k?

Did you get to see any historical sites?

We did 5 nights in San Juan. Tix were points and hotel was all points. so $1.5k on food and drinks and activities for 4.

Well Africa is 3.5x the size of the continental US so you’d have to be more specific where they went

I’ll guess South Africa, maybe Kenya.

We used to budget 1K per day for our family of 4 for EVERYTHING - airline tickets, hotels, cars, food, tickets for activities. So 10 day vacation would cost 10K

Now I would assume that it is 2K per day so it would be 20K for a 10 day vacation.

Disney cruise for 3 booked about a month before on GTY (Disney picks the room based on the type you've chosen). About $4500 for the cruise but then very few other expenses. Used points for flights one way and paid $350 total for the flights home. Used Disney transportation to/from the airport, which was pricy but convenient. All in just a tad over $5k. Big NYE party, 2 nights of fireworks, great weather, and a great time.
