If you went somewhere for holiday break, how much did it cost?

Flew to CO to visit family and ski. Plane tickets were $700 each ($2800), 4 day Epic passes were $550 each ($2200) Ski rentals were $50 pp/per day ($800), car rental was $600 for the week.

So $6400 for 4 people and that did not include lodging (free for us) as well as most of our food was covered by family other than the restaurant meals we paid for.

Thanksgiving week for 4 nights trip to Venice Italy, hotel with water taxi docks plus Lufthansa/swiss flight for family of 4, around $4000 ( not include tour, food, souvenirs and other expense, probably another $2000).

6 ppl: 50k+ (not including dinners); Carribean island; 10 nights.

Worth it bc only time adult children could come.

It really depends.

We initially didn’t book flights to FL because they were $600pp, and we opted to drive. But then we found last-minute flights for $180pp and ended up flying.

We went on a cruise over winter break. Cruises can be quite affordable since your accommodations, food, entertainment, etc. are included. We found a great deal roughly a year ago; prices tend to go up as ships fill up.

My best tip is to get a credit card that accumulates travel points and have everyone in the family use that card/account. I haven’t paid for a hotel in 3 years thanks to the points we accumulate collectively. (We use Hilton.)

+1. We went to Colonial Williamsburg and it was like $700 bucks of all of us even though we splurged and got a carriage ride, but I know other people who spent like $10K to go to Disney.

+2 And I know people who went to Europe and Asia and it probably cost 20K for a family of 4. We went to Florida and stayed with relatives rather than a hotel, so it was maybe 2K for flights for the family/food/activities.

Similar. Visited family, so $1500 for tickets, $500 for car rental.

What island? Did you get a villa or hotel?

Anonymous wrote:West coast to Boston (family), plane tickets were $4000 for a family of four. We used Alaska companion fare to get it to half price ($2k), then had to change the ticket which added $1k total. Other than that, had to rent a car for a couple days ($200), went on an overnight excursion while there, which was about another $1000. Also bought incidental groceries/meals while visiting family. So, a little north of $6k?

What was the overnight excursion. I have family in Boston and always looking for fun stuff in the winter.

Sanibel Island, FL for 5 nights
$2800/flights for four
$2200/2 bed 2 bath condo across the street from beach access point
Used points for rental car

We didn't do that many activities, we mini golfed one day and did a sunset/dolphin cruise but mostly just hung out at the pool/beach, shelled, "hiked" at the nature preserves, rode bikes around the island. We would've spent money on activities (and eating out!) if we'd have stayed at home so I don't count that!

jesus, 7000 for 2 people to go to Mexico/

For 2 weeks.

+1 people spend that for a week at Disney. 7k isn't bad for 2 weeks during the ultra peak tourist season.

I spent about $10k for a week in Florida in 2019 with 3 park days at Disney.

We drove to Sw Fl which was painful (19 hours each way with traffic). But used points for a nice resort for 4 nights so total cost was $2000.
