Yeah I know several kids who got in with ACT scores and not SAT scores. Just submit whichever is the best, doesn’t matter the test. |
They don’t admit to major. |
|
So you can change your manor once in?
Why do people say you may not “get in” to other majors once in? |
| 4.46 weighted 1450 superscore. Average ECs-no leadership. Highest rigor. Applying EA. |
|
4.585 weighted , 1560 SAT, National Merit SF, max rigor at magnet STEM school in NoVA.
EA not ED. UVa Engineering is sub par.. |

Truly curious why they would choose UVA engineering over VT?
My DD is applying to both, although EDing to UVA. She really likes the size of the engineering program compared to VT. 2,000 kids at UVA versus 10,000 at ViT. She thinks a smaller program would be a better fit. She also much preferred the UVA campus and the school is closer to home. Crossing all fingers and toes that she gets in! ViT is definitely a contender, although she really liked Pitt and just got a bunch of merit from them. |
|
VT def has a better Engineering Program. Applying to both UVA and VT.
Not applying to Pitt. Ever since we visited Pitt in winter ( Nov-Apr) - we cross that city off our list |
There are certain programs you have to apply to (e.g. coms, data sciences) and also majors in A&S that require certain criteria be met to be eligible. The big one that students don’t get in to is coms (McIntyre) - it’s acceptance rate averages around 10 percent. |
No, McIntyre is like 30-40% acceptance rate. Are you trying to scare people off by posting an untruth? |
| Why can't this be looked up somewhere official? |
| Gosh…. So anyone under a 4.0 is definitely not getting in, assuming everything else is also regular. |
This is almost exactly my kid, but with a slightly higher GPA. In-state, non-NOVA public. |
Weighted? No. |
That was the dying gasp of the legacy hook. UVA essentially still wanted that sweet alumni donation money, but they also had to abide by the university’s public statements claiming to abandon legacy admits. It is going to be much harder to get into UVA by any means, this year. |

Grounds I’m a UVa alum and I’d choose VT for engineering |
